I just got done building my first PC last night, and now I'm installing steam and games. However, I have to use onboard video because my graphics card makes my PSU's fan stop running, displays in extremely low resolution (HDMI), and isn't recognized as a graphics card. It is probably something stupid, but I still need help. Corsair TX650M PSU and a HIS IceQ Turbo HD Radeon 7870.
Have you downloaded and installed/updated the catalyst control center and its drivers?
yeah, the drivers that come on the disk are usually quite outdated, and you might not even have installed them, windows does have some basic graphics drivers built-in
I got the latest drivers off of the internet... got the resolution working and stuff. PSU fan still not running.
Typically the internal fan controller on a PSU will not run unless the internal temperature reaches a certain point ( I think corsair is something like 50°C) or the PSU is under heavy load.
That explains it... It is freezing in my house right now. However, I did run Furmark for about 5 minutes 7680x4320 AAx8 for about 5 minutes... GPU hit about 40c. PSU fan still didn't turn on. Is that normal?
I am talking about the temperatures in the PSU itself going beyond something like 50°C the GPU temps will not affect the PSU, but yes that should be normal. My Seasonic M12II 620 never turns on even when the 5770 I have is under something like 250W load. Also the 7870 at max power will only be able to draw something like around 300W which is barely half your PSU and not considered a heavy load.
