Not sure if this is the right place for this. Just wanted to see if this is at all feasible these days.
I saw LinusTechTips had a recent (couple months ago?) video about Linus running fiber optic display and USB cables through his house in order to basically have a whole-home PC with VM’s and GPU passthrough and such.
Is this at all possible to do over just networking cabling instead? Like GPU passthrough but using a VDI implementation like SPICE w/Proxmox?
i.e. can I put my computer in a back room/closet and just run networking cables to all locations where I want a computer in my house and have some sort of thin client? The answer to this is yes; but can you do things like passing through a GPU and GAMING with a setup like this?
If you can; would the latency be too poor for this to be feasible today? Just something I’ve been thinking about doing. Tired of having computers all over the place it would be nice to consolidate it to one place in the house (and get rid of all fan noise lol), but I’d prefer a network implementation than just running fiber optic cabling (which I don’t have the means of really doing myself) for video/USB
