I wanted to play fallout4 this morning, and for some reason the game set my graphics to low quality, when previously it would always set it to ultra high. I have GTX970. when I manually changed it to ultra high the game became unplayable, and laggy. I don't think my gpu is being utilized, but i don't know how to fix it... i checked the driver for it, and its up to date >.< plz help
Try going back a driver. Nvidia has been lacking in their drivers lately. Also look around for what else could be causing it. Background operations, very low disk space (talking anything lower than 20GB, but if its an SSD then it shouldn't matter) Then try a good old restart.
im not sure how to check for gpu usage, but i tried running skyrim and it had the same problem, i also tried witcher 2 but... it froze.... might have an unrelated issue with my PC T.T....i don't have other games that are graphics intensive... except arkham night but that game is glitchy no matter what gpu i use.. I think its prob using the integrated graphics though i just dont know how to tell it to stop doing that
Do you have Evga precision, Msi Afterbuner, Asus Gpu Tweak, or Nzxt CAM installed? If you don't, install Msi Afterburner ( http://gaming.msi.com/features/afterburner ) and then when you are playing the game, in the monitoring window of msi Afterburner there is a stat for gpu utilization. If that isn't 100% or close to it, that would confirm that the gpu isn't being utilized. This might be the result of multiple things. Something on your computer might be causing the cpu to be slowed down due to other processes and this would mean the gpu must slow down to compensate.
