GPU gone bad?

Hi, I'm having some issues with my pc and I think it may be a gpu problem. I'll start out by listing my parts and then what problems I've been having. I've had the PC in it's current configuration since late September 2015, the newest parts being an extra 8gb of ram and the CPU.

CPU: Intel 4590
MOBO: Asus H97-Pro
RAM: 12gb Kingston Hyper X
GPU: MSI r9 270 (not the X)
HDD: some random Samsung 7200rpm thing
PSU: Thermaltake Litepower 700W
Running Windows 10

I'd just launched Battlefield 1 and started a skype call with my mate. I got into the menu and there was a little bit of artifacting going but I didn't think anything of it, (I often get light artifacting in games because of my overclock) I got onto a server and chose my squad, at that moment the screen filled up with brown lines (the same shade as the ground in BF1) and the sound froze up. At this point I thought "Oh, it's just a standard crash" so I restarted and waited. I noticed that the Asus logo had a few coloured lines trough it, the windows 10 logo came up with the spinning circles and there were a few pixels displaying green and purple instead of the win 10 blue. The PC took longer than usual and then the screen flashed like it was being connected to and then nothing, so I gave it a few minutes and restarted, tried the same thing a few times and ended up starting it in safe mode. I'm currently using it to type this up so it's functioning alright except for the large artifacting lines across the screen and the appalling resolution.

Looking at the symptoms I thought it could be the GPU drivers but that wouldn't make sense if it's artifacting in the bios and during start up, it would seem that it's a hardware problem. Can someone with more experience tell me more about what could be happening? I get the feeling that my kinda cheap (not Bronze rated) PSU may have killed my GPU or at least maimed it. I'd be very thankful for any response :)

Try taking your gpu out or switching to onboard graphics in the bios if you can even see the option.

Have to rule out your gpu

Thanks for the reply and you've made a fantastic point, I completely forgot that I had onboard graphics. I just booted it using the mobo dvi with the gpu completely out of the pc. It seems to be all in order and running fine, no artifacting, boots normally out of safe mode and hasn't got any weird glitches going on. So that means my gpu is dead right? It's been running at 30 on idle and 59 on load for the last few months (the cold months) in summer it goes up about 10 degrees, so it doesn't seem like an over heating problem, the only thing I can think of is the psu.

Seems unlikely that its the psu if the system still boots and is fine with no gpu-installed. Re-install the gpu and reconfirm that the issue persists. If so, I'd say its safe to guarantee the gpu is the problem.

Thanks for the help, I've re installed it and uninstalled it a few times now and I'm consistently getting the exact same results, nothing seems to have changed. I'm at a loss, maybe the gpu just gave up? I've heard of cheap PSU's over volting components but that wasn't from a reputable source. I'm using my pc to write this just using onboard graphics and there don't seem to be any issues. the GPU was still detected when I started the pc in safe mode with the gpu installed. Is there a way to see the voltages being put out by the psu or something?

Your PSU isn't bad .Mine is LC ,so there is no chance that I will put strong gpu on it :)
