Hi guys can you recomend me a gpu for 1680x1050 that can max games without turning on the filters for the next 2 years.
My Current PC:
PSU:Fortron ATX400-PTF 450W
Mobo:Asus A55BM-E
CPU:AMD Athlon x4 750k 3.7GHz
GPU:Galaxy 9800GTX+ 512Mb
RAM:HyperX Fury 8GB 1866Mhz(Single Stick)
HDD:500GB Hitachi And 250GB Seagate
Dang I think it's a time for a new PC build in my opinion if you have the money to do so. :P But if you can't just build a new setup I would reccomend something like a gtx 750ti which requires like no pcie power from PSU. Any other opinions?
My still sporting a GTX670 at 1080p gaming. You will be fine with a new GPU I agree.
Buy the best to your budget. the $$$ is all the matters. More the merrier.
As a layman the Nvidia cards seems to use less power so keep in mind your 450W PSU.
My rig with a GTX670 pulls about 400W at the wall on a meter under load
Considering a budget isn't specified(!), [sarcasm]I'd go with a titan X and get a better PSU. That'll certainly max out anything at that resolution for a while. "Overkill" is a lie shutup.[/sarcasm]
Well honestly OP should still be okay as far as CPU/Motherboard/RAM
If anything upgrading to a R9 280 or a R9 370 when it comes out will be a great option.
Also a quality 500 to 600 watt PSU would be a great consideration.
Im sorry guys i should have been more clear.I plan on changing the PSU and my budget is for the gpu will be 250$
For $250, I reckon @Theonewhoisdrunk is probably spot on with a 280/370 (will be out in about a month if you can wait), and a decent PSU. If your PSU upgrade isn't inclusive of that $250, you might be able to grab an R9 290, or a vapour-X 280X. The R9 290 will probably stand quite a bit of time at that resolution.
Just got a R9 290 Vapor X my self and the prices are only going to drop.
I would recomend checking your local craigslist/kijiji/whateveritiswhereyoulive for deals.
you should try and pick up an old GTX 5xx 6xx or maybe 7xx for the cheap. Maybe even a cheap 1080p monitor.
The thing to keep in mind though, is you might not be maxing everything out with a 750k, that's not to say it's a bad cpu, or that it's you can't game for the next couple of years, but you gotta keep your expectations in line.CPU performance isn't affected by resolution. I wouldn't pair it with something like an R9 290.
If anything I think a great fit would be an R9 285, it performs better than an R9 280, and for 1680 by 1050 you're never going to need more than 2GB VRAM, so it seems like a perfect fit to me.
WITHOUT turning on the filters? Such as MSAA or AF? Well, a 750-Ti should do that trick, specifically the 2GB version. As a bonus, you would even keep your PSU! However, at such a resolution, not having any form of AA will horrendous, even at otherwise ultra settings.
A GTX 960 should do the trick nicely if you want to crank MSAA pretty high, should fall within the budget (excluding PSU upgrade). Or really any card between the GTX 750-Ti and GTX 960.

r9 280 + ssd + psu = <$300 & will transform your system
Also what case you have will may limit what gpu will fit ---- length wise.
=>r9 290, gtx970 etc will be a waste when paired with that cpu.
With that PSU, it's kind of tough to recommend something. Maybe an GTX 960?
Actually ya, why even buy a new PSU ? A 960 does fine for gaming at your resolution and doesn't require a new PSU.
I have almost the exact same setup as you. I have an MSI R9 280 with my Athlon x45 750k and the pair pushes 1680x1050 pretty well, however, in some newer titles that are CPU heavy, such as BF4 and especially GTA 5, I have to turn the settings down because I get a pretty bad bottleneck. For example, I run GTA 5 on medium settings w/o AA. All 4 cores maxed at 100% (even though OC'd to 4.1 Ghz), but the 280 sits at about 30% usage.
So a 280 will work well, but remember that some games WILL bottleneck (every other game I have I max out though). Good luck man.
What refresh rate is the 1680x1050 at?
Assuming that the 1680x1050 is on a FW900 or similar CRT, I would get a Titan X or two. Maxing games with 160FPS at 1680x1050 is hard, but a Titan X SLI setup should do it. However, if that 1680x1050 is on a 60Hz LCD monitor, anything above a 970 would be overkill.
Are you serious? A 750 Ti is not enough for 1680x1050 unless you only want 20-30FPS.
The monitor's refresh rate is 60Hz
I'd get a GTX 970, then.
i would rock a 750gtx/ti for about $100 if you want to game at res without filters.
