I was originally saving all summer for a 285, but now I've got a big boy job and my budget is pretty much unlimited. I've been looking at a 980 ti but I think it might be overkill ?
Right now I have a 40 inch tv as my main display and I really do think it's the perfect size for my set up and room layout. I don't think a 1440p monitor in that size is value for money right now (kinda contradicted myself I know) So yeah, 1080p will do me just fine.
I was looking at the 390 also, but I don't want it struggling on my 2 years down the line :)
I can't recommend a 980 ti even though i am using it for 1080p... a Fury (non X), 390, 390x, 980, or 970 would be appropriate. If you want a card that's going to last 2+ years for 1080p at max/high settings I'd have to suggest the Fury, however all the cards I mentioned should be able to game decently after 2 years.
Yeah go with a 970. It will last more then 3 years for sure and with the money u safe now you can buy one when the time comes. Or you go 970 SLI in the future.
if you use programs that could benefit from the CUDA power of a 980Ti like sony vegas which is a huge use of mine then I'd say go for it but the other posters a pretty smart too saying to get the 970 and move to SLI in a few years to handle 1440. just what u need it for matters most.
well if you have a decent cpu, and you want the highest frames possible on 1080p, then a 980Ti is basicly an awesome card. But its ofc overkill for 1080p gaming. On the other hand, if you every want to upgrade your monitor setup, with a 980Ti you are totaly ready for that.
Ofc a R9-390 is also a decent choice for 1080p gaming. It saves you a bit of money. R9-Fury can also be interessting, or GTX980, depening on which one you can get cheaper.
FuryX / 390X / GTX970. These 3 cards dont make that much sense to me atm. The reasoning behind it is easy.
Fury X gets beaten by the 980Ti atm.
390X does not perform that much better then his little brother the 390, they are too close to justify the extra money they cost.
GTX970 gets beaten by the 390, depending on the games, but most benchmarks i have seen, the 390 comes ontop.
I'd go for the 390 for solely 1080p gaming, beats the 970 in like 9 out of 10 scenarios, is the same priceish and has twice (or 2.3x, if you don't consider the last 0.5gb of the 970's VRAM actual VRAM) the VRAM.
Okay, here is the quickest run down I can do: God tier: 980ti (Recommended for 1080p and 1440p if you want to later upgrade), 980 (Recomended for 1080p gaming), Fury X (Recomended for 1080p), 970 SLI (1440p and 10080), Fury Crossfire (1440p and Crossfire)
Top Tier: Fury, 970, 390x, 390
Mid Tier: 960, 380
This is just a very, very basic and quick rundown
Edit: Thanks for the notice there SpaceCat The Resolutions are for future proofing more than for todays games
