Any Gripes you have with AMD or Nvidia? Lets Keep it Short and Sweet.

Anyone else feel like Nvidia should be more generous with the VRAM count? AMD can give you an R9-290 that is competitive to the GTX 780 for a cheaper price and give you 4GBS of VRAM. and as of Recently the R9-290 has FINALLY Dropped to reasonable prices. some R9-290s are about 430 to 500 bucks now in the States. as dumb as this sounds I recently upgraded from an R9-270x to GTX 770 Classified. and for some odd reason I FEEL like i need 4gbs of VRAM even though i Don't. the most i've used was in skyrim it was using 2.7gb of VRAM.

So what are your gripes with AMD or Nvidia? anything you wish AMD or Nvidia would fix? or feel like there is some Bullshit they need to fix? anything you would like to see in a GPU. (Please keep it reasonable lol)

I'm feeling weird about it. I don't like how Nvidia is trying to price there cards. They're trying to price gouge. The only reason they have competitive prices in the US is because NewEgg and other online retailers are price gouging AMD cards. Now that AMD prices are coming down I feel like AMD is going to become the budget friendly option, whilst still being competitive in the higher range stuff. When Nvidia releases the 800 series I'm not sure. So how long this lasts is kind of up in the air.

So it could end up with Nvidia's 800 series being as fast or faster for the money. We really will just have to wait to see...

you heard the rumors that Nvidias GTX 880 its still a bit insane. but i believe its going to be priced higher than the 780ti.

My biggest gripe with Nvidia is the limited overclocking I can do. Even after I modified the bios of my card the most I could push was 1.212 volts, since Nvidia put a physical limiter into the card. I know it can take more because it doesnt come close to thermal limits. Although I think this is less of a problem with newer Nvidia cards.

yeah I've noticed that for my case my card is weird. Even though my card is capable of having 3 bios's. (Its original Bios, OC bios and LN2 Bios) as absurd as this sounds. my card had a more stable OC on its default bios than its LN2 Bios which was a HUGE mindfuck, enough that it made my brain hurt. whilst AMD is like "Hey you want to OC? Go to town! just watch your temps" i agree thats another my gripes as well with Nvidia.

I am probably picking up a GTX 770 very soon and hopefully I won't have to overclock it much so Nvidia's BS won't be a problem.

I agree with the Vram statement.

I was really pissed off back when the 680 and 7970 launched. The 680 only had 2Gb standard. The most demanding games used right up to 1.5-1.7Gb of Vram at 1080p. Which for the most part is fine. Just,... Where did that leave use 1440p users or surround players? Or us that mod the hell out of skyrim? I sure as hell was not paying the $75ish permium for and extra two gigs on teh 4GB model, while the 7970 was about the same price as a 680 and performs marginally the same but with an extra gig out of the box.

I love that the 290 and 290X have 4GBs. This seems to be a really good sweet spot for that amount of power, While the 3Gb 780(ti) may be lacking (i say may because no game suffered from lack of Vram, I just to overshoot it a little.)

My personal Biggest gripe would have to be the lack of Publicity on the AMD side. I havn't heard ANY next gen rumors since what? February? it seems every other or every week that Nvidia is in the news for something. (proportions obviously skewed But I'm making a point)

I also have another gripe. Remember this?  A month later they said fuck it and put the prices back up when they realized the amd cards were going up.

Also- one of the 290s (I think the HIS) is $400 while another good portion of them are $450. This is the card I plan on getting this summer provided prices don't bump up again.

i think the price gouging is finally done i haven't heard anything about crypto-currency in a Long time. its better to grab the R9-290s while they are at their lowest. i kinda feel bad for the people who grabbed the R9-290s when they were 600 bucks. and R9-290x's when they were 700 to 800 bucks. cause at least right now they are back down to the prices they should be. R9-290 ranging from 400 to 500 bucks and the R9-290x's ranging up to 620 bucks.

Driver support on Linux. I think we all know where this sentence is going. Although, it is admittedly getting a bit better for AMD, at least from what I've heard.

I'd really like to see some work put into multi-GPU setups. As it stands, even with nVidia cards there's all sorts of issues. And with 4k monitors coming out, the only way to get decent performance is with multiple cards. Also, I'm going to jump on the bandwagon here with the VRAM complaints. Two R9 290Xs basically completely destroy two 780 Ti's at 4k because of the extra GB of VRAM. I also really don't like the extra VRAM that are put on lower end cards. The card doesn't have enough horsepower to properly utilize it unless you go for a multi-card setup, so it ends up just being bait for the uninformed.

It really bugs me that nVidia seems to be marketing what should be a mid range card as the high end for a series, i.e. the GTX 680 should have been the GTX 660, and apparently similar shenanigans happening with the 800 series.

Proprietary software. For the love of god, can't AMD and nVidia just work together and provide Mantle, True Audio, G-Sync/Free-sync, PhysX, etc. for both AMD and nVidia cards? That would be a great move for consumers. (Mantle is open source i believe, but nVidia will never adopt it).

I think the real question here is, what do I like about the GPU industry right now? I really can't say that there's much. I do appreciate AMD's larger amounts of VRAM on cards as that will help with the transition to higher resolutions.

I won't have the money for a 290 till end of june/start of july. So I can only hope the prices stay down until then

Oh! Thanks for reminding me!

Why The Fuck Did We Not Have VFRT(Variable FrameRate Tech? And why does Nvidia have to make a proprietary expensive solution?

I mean seriously, I can't think of any downside to having VFRT. besides the comparatively small cost it would take to make it a standard. I am Glad DP 1.2a is rumored to have freesync.

Nvidia will never adopt it cause DX12 is probably going to implement that "Bare to the Metal" Performance but then again Nvidia is Like "Hey we Made this Awesome Cake but you can't have any!" (in the sense of Nvidia keeping G-Sync Strict to their Cards) When that should really be for everyone. Hopefully if AMD can Pull of Free-Sync its going to make Nvidia look REALLY Stupid later on.

Hopefully. cause theres a possibility that if Free-Sync Kicks off that G-sync could be dead on arrival.

I think that Nvidia is gonna add more vram in future cards, but I so wish that the 780's had 4 gigs. I mean 3 is great but of you're a skyrim modder then well you might be close to hitting that. Although, EVGA did release a 6 gig version for like 50 more dollars so that may be worth it.
