Got the Rumor Mill Going

Pretty crazy..i don't see this happening, but if it does it would be amazing...http://wccftech.com/amd-16nm-opteron-fx-processors-possibly-upto-20-cores-2016-2017/

well, we can hope.

Either way, 2016 is a long time from now.

Ehh LGA? Really wish they would stay with the PGA-ZIF Sockets. Makes me feel like I'm not breaking the damn CPU when I put it in....

Anyway, I could see 20 Core Opterons but FX? No. I'd imagine the power consumption and clock speeds on such parts would not be sufficient for a consumer part.

Especially if they are ditching the multi cluster architecture I find it weird that they would be adding even more cores. I'm guessing they would go with 8 true cores, no sharing decoders or any of that here, with some form of AMD's own Hyper Threading. That is what I think we'll see.

Who knows though? Maybe they'll go up to 12 cores or down to 6 or even 4 ( I hope not.) It is all speculation at this point.

I really was hoping the new FX parts will be really enthusiast/pro grade. Something like Intel's LGA 2011, X99 platform. I'm thinking a 12 core FX, Quad channel DDR4 and a massive number of PCIE lanes.

That'd be my dream or something in between Intel's Z97 and X99.

8 cpu cores with 12 gpu cores ala APU

That would be interesting, but the report says all cpu cores

Sure it would be nice if AMD wasn't 2 years behind Intel but that's just not how it is. They have made advancements with the opteron line but they aren't willing to continue the fx line out of that technology. AMD wants to start from scratch again so they are even further behind whenever they release it. Their whole plan just seems like a bust from what I've read so far. Anyway we'll just have to wait and see what they are going to do. I'd like to see them competitive again at the top not just the mid to low tier they are stuck in.

"2 years behind Intel" isn't very meaningful. Intel hasn't improved performance much since Sandy Bridge, 3 years ago.
