Aged but still some useful suggestions.

Terminal Emulator is an essential app imo. It has limited functionality if your phone isn't rooted but it still incredibly useful even on an unrooted phone. It is also open source and can be found on GitHub: https://github.com/jackpal/Android-Terminal-Emulator

Also if you are using Google Chrome go to https://forum.teksyndicate.com, select the menu and click on Add to Home screen which will add an app icon on your home screen for teksyndicate.

Wunderlist is a pretty neat one I found recently. Basically you type, "Grocery shopping on Saturday" and it'll mark down the day and just put, "Grocery Shopping." It'll also do times and reminders.

This one is pretty cool as well. You can add the next two weeks of events to your Notification Bar. I use it for reminders like, "Pay Phone Bill" "Pay Rent" etc. Also, it's good to make use of the calendar for bill dates. I used different colored labels for each one in the calendar.

Matter of preference for most people but I prefer Swiftkey for the keyboard.
