awww yeah i got myself a 7950 for 36,95 euro's with postal cost's included :D the gpu i bought is the MSI R7950 Twin Frozr 3GD5 V2/OC.
he sold it to me for this price because when he installed the amd drivers his screen has gone black. and he did not want to put any time into it. also he already has a better gpu he said. so he thinks the gpu is defective (and i don't)
so hopefully i can just succesfully put it in my own pc and game on. it will be a nice upgrade from my 1GB 7850.
and i-am planning on flashing bios to a 7970 bios maybe, or atleast oc to 7970 performance.
got myself a sweet (old version) R9 280
does anyone know if that twin frozr cooler is any good?
Twin Frozr III is a great cooler with added cooling to the VRM and VRAM. The only issues with the cooler design that I can really think of is the fans being a bit small and whiny at higher RPM. Thankfully, you'll never have to run it over 65% on the fans to keep the card cool.
Keep in mind that the likelyhood that you can unlock the card at all is slim to none. Only the first run 7950's were locked 7970s, and that card is unlikely to be an early run card. However flashing a much higher overhead vBIOS onto it (such as the ASUS DCII TOP) could work out well for really pushing the overclock.
If you are flashing the vBIOS, remember to flip the switch on the spine of the card to the rear position. This is vBIOS #2 and is usually the only one you are able to flash, leaving vBIOS #1 for the original ROM and recovery in pinch.
good to hear. yes i already worried a bit about the small fans.. oh wel maybe some diy fan system. but i have a corsair 330R so that should help keep the noise down.
yeah i don't think i can unlock anything but the 7970 bios has some sweet options that the 7950 bios does not have (mostly Voltage options) and lower idle voltage etc.
thats so awesome! i did not even know this gpu had dual bios hahaha.
This really is the first REAL powerfull gpu i ever had so i-am pretty excited. my 1GB 7850 will go to my girlfriend to replace her 4870 512mb (wich was my previous gpu) so she can do some more tomb raider haha.
Try using a 7950 Boost BIOS instead. Sapphire had a very successful Boost card (VaporX Boost) which has a reworked AMD BIOS that allows for a 950MHz boost clock above the standard 850MHz 3D clock. It also includes increased OC limits up to 1200MHz Core and 1575MHz VRAM. (The MSI is factory limited to 1100MHz Core, and does not include a boost clock.) Albeit you won't be seeing those clock rates under air on a card with the stock VRM. :P
