so as the title says, i got a ati radeon HD 5850 1gb asus card and a 6870 with a HIS iceQ cooler. both cards where dead when i got them. they look pretty new and have suffered no visual damage as far as i can see. i have tried bakeing them in a oven, but that did not work.
My question:
is there anything else i can try before i decide to throw them away?
can you flash the BIOS?? or something like that? pls explain.
thank you
update, tried flashing the BIOS an both of the cards... did nothing. my computer detects the cards as "standard VGA graphics adapte"
Just an FYI baking your cards in the same oven you cook your food in is an extremely bad idea! Unless you like eating your food with a hint of carcinogenic chemicals.
Edit: Baking the cards is actually reflowing the solder connections on the board. If you have an old cooking oven or toaster oven that you don't use for food then go ahead and give it a try. You can even give using a directed heatgun a try to reflow solder. What happens in an oven when you reflow solder is that the carcinogenic materials outgas and stick to the heating element and metal elements in the oven then consequently every time you use the oven the carcinogenic materials will outgas into your food.
if it detects it as standard VGA adaptor then that means it needs a driver, install the driver if that doesn't work then keep the cooler and I think there is a guy who wants to buy dead GPUs on the forum, check the buy/sell threads
