Google Terms of Service

My phone asked for an update the other day. Wouldn't let me use any app without it. After I install the google update it gives me a pop up saying the terms of service has changes and this is what I read.

Google gets full access to your phone. They can  control:

  • Turning radio/wifi on/off
  • Take any info from your phone at any time
  • Turn data usage on/off
  • Turn camera/mic on off
  • Access to all txt messages
  • Access to all contacts
  • The ability to makes calls/send txt from your phone
  • Location
  • Updating your files
  • They can share this info with whoever they choose

And the list goes on, these are just most of my pet peeves I guess.

Are we supposed to be ok with this? If I don't like it should I be picking up a blackberry?

yep, its wood.

If it bothers you, root it, install a recovery, and flash a more secure ROM to it.

I'm using Slimbean on an s2, I rooted it when the bastards wouldn't let me delete a yahoo link. The problem is if I don't update I cant use google apps. I'm not knowledgeable when it comes to apps but from what I gather from what you say, it shouldn't be a problem to replace the apps I have with apps that are not from the google store?

I know privacy is basically out the window these days but I'm a Canadian who frequently travels to the USA, if google decides it's funny to turn the radio on or wifi off while I'm across the boarder then I'm risking a huge bill. Are we supposed to trust them that much?
