I came across this article on the web... Rather interesting bug that neither Google nor Nvidia is concerned about fixing. So I wonder if Incognoto mode truly works...
I understand where that guy is coming from, but that guy is an idiot. It has nothing to do with Nvidia. but how Chrome utilizes RAM. or Memory (if you wish to get into the textbook definition). Chrome will split everything it's doing into different processes. So if you have, for example 5 tabs open in the browser. and you check 'Task Manager' in Windows. it will show you 5 or 6 processes running. which is one of the main reasons I refuse to use Chrome on the Desktop. it's effective but it's a massive memory hog and it does it, in such in an in-efficient manner. According to 'This Guy' if it displays previous browsing history. that only means as soon as he closes the browser. whatever application is active. in this case Chrome. is NOT being deleted from Memory (or RAM). You have to understand when you launch an application on the desktop, it will get loaded into RAM (Memory) and then the processor can understand what the application is, so that it can be used and perform the necessary instructions.
All a Graphics card will do is display a picture to your monitor, and if you give it permission accelerate videos. that's about it.
Absolutely, From a different view, Incognito mode is nothing but a Placebo. If it truly had the concept in mind to be incognito, it would clear the ram before closing the app.
This is what I think is the biggest problem
> This is a serious problem. It breaks the operating system’s user boundaries by allowing non-root users to spy on each other. Additionally, it doesn’t need to be specifically exploited to harm users – it can happen purely by accident. Anyone using a shared computer could be exposing anything displayed on their screen to other users of the computer.
> Google marked the bug as won’t fix because google chrome incognito mode is apparently not designed to protect you against other users on the same computer (despite nearly everyone using it for that exact purpose).
I don't see why Google couldn't fix this. As for you not using Chome I don't blame you 1 bit.
See when he says "Non-Root" users. well if he has "multiple users" accounts on OS X. so let's say his main account is Root. and he has another user that is not root. if you sign out of your user. and allow someone else to sign in, the memory will be cleared. the same way let's say on one machine you have an administrator account and a basic user. whatever the admin did on their time on their account on the machine on Windows. the basic user will not be able to see much of anything.
Now if they ARE able to see it, then I could see it being a potential problem. HOWEVER, the way this guy is describing it, it's more of a Chrome problem. and I'm guessing this guy just closed Chrome, and then when he let a friend use the exact same PC and account, he opened up Chrome and all tabs from his last session opened up. if anything it's just proof that Incognito mode is just psuedo protection for whatever it is you wish to do. in this guy's case. watch porn. though to solve this problem he could just stop using Chrome. or switch to Firefox or stick with Safari.
The people commenting mention having "similiar things" with Safari but that I beleive is a whole nother issue entirely. Well not an issue as such as it just shows a small image of the last "draw" of the app.
At first it seems like it was just a chrome/nvidia driver bug but the comments highlight there may be more to it than that.
It could however be more of a general driver bug according to the
comments on that article. Some people think it is more of an "issue" than just Chrome.
I came upon a similar bug on chrome years back. It would share your bookmarks to all computers that you have logged in. I think people who have shared access can look through your bookmarks. So yeah, what I did was unshared my bookmark with google and unlink my account to the cloud so that my stuff isn't shared and copied over to any other computers. Just imagine deleting all your bookmarks on 2 or 3 computers, only to find a few came back days later. WTH is this crap?
It sucks cuz even mobile bookmarks on a cellphone will eventually appear on desktop bookmark everynow and then even though I haven't sync'ed any of my apps.
It's not a bug it's a FEATURE! Just dont' sign in to Google or Youtube.
You can actually crash Chrome by putting tons of text into the URL/Search Bar. I had a single tab on Chrome and managed to get it to use 8GBs of RAM.
