This is HUGE news. It will be interesting to observe what tech press avoids this story and which cover it.
Thank you
I think the power co should have been doing this all along. Att does not to serve people in rual areas. They are pulling all the class 5 switched out of the network replacing with ip soft switches. ATT answer to the problem get a cell phone.
ATT does not want to run fiber or fix the issues they want to buy bigger companies with the money. AKA time warner fewer players more profits worse service for the consumer.
That's great for me as I live in TN although I got less excited when I read this line.
That is nice and I dunno about people in the other areas but around here there are at least four options Comcast, Xfinity, WOW and ATT, we already get 30 down / 5 up in a bundle package of around $100 or I think we can get just internet at 50 down for $50 (actually I had to check and HOLY SHIT they're suddenly offering gigabit for $110)
If anyone here can get WOW then now is a good time to upgrade your internet.

If I had four options, I'd pop a cork! Your situation is definitely not representative of what most folks have to deal with in the US. My options are DSL, or Comcast. Sure, satellite is technically an option, but dat latency ...
I'm not going to subsidize bad behavior, so I suffer with DSL. On a good day I get 10 down and 0.5 up. Yeah, in 2017 10 down and 0.5 up is still a thing!
Well as I said, until sometime recently, even with competition the best I could ever hope to get was 50mbps without an expensive business connection, so the competition has certainly helped my area but it mostly meant that they couldn't put restrictive data caps or fuck us over with unreasonable prices, other than that while 30mbps is better than the average it's still pretty slow in 2017, especially sharing it with three other people, but yeah sure I'm still glad other areas around here will finally get 25mbps at a minimum.
