Good monitor for graphic design

Hi all.

Basically I'm a graphic designer, and I'm looking for a good monitor for my new home work station. I'm looking for a good color accuracy, and ability to properly calibrate monitor if I need to. I also like to game, so a good response time would be great, but work comes first, and design related features are more important for now. Price range - 500-600$ should be fine.

I was looking at Dell U2413, and was about to buy it, but then ran into loads of posts/articles regarding ghosting issues, color leaks, weird color spots in corners, and the fact that Dell told people that they know about the problem, but won't fix it with firmware update. So I have strong doubts about buying it now. Also was looking at Asus PA248Q, but that also had some problems, and some forum guru's explained that its worse than the Dell panel. So now i'm stuck :)

Can anyone (preferably someone working in the same industry) advise which monitor I can buy? I was thinking to just get the apple monitor, but its so damn expensive, I'm sure there are other much better value/performance options in the pc world :)

Thanks in advance!

PS: I live and work in China, so I don't have easy access to a lot of US specific hardware. I've seen good monitors from smaller companies in US, but unfortunately its hard to get them here. Unless its like a super amazing deal, then I can try shipping it here.

Hey,

I have an Asus PA238Q. I don't work as a graphic designer...BUT, this monitor really is nice. The build quality and the stand are amazing. I know its not the same one you mentioned but its in the same line so I figured this might mean something to you. Its colour accuracy is great, it makes my other monitors look like crap. My Dad has one of the Apple Cinema Displays in his study and my Asus PA238Q is glorious enough that I don't spend all my time wishing I had the Apple one.

I can't say I know much about monitors, but I did briefly. I learnt a lot during my time searching for a good monitor because I have to be sure what I am getting is actually good. In this case it really was.
