Going back to school soon and wanted to see what laptop you guys think I should get, Is ZaReason any good? What about one of the Dell Developer Editions? Something Light and powerful, and a good distro to boot (geddit?). Battery Life Probably important too. Need opinions. Thanks
Do you have a budget? There are a lot of things you can get for 1.5K USD, but not so much for 500 USD.
System76 has some badass Workstation Linux laptops, also years of experience.Guys over at Linux Action Show use them and they have Ubuntu preinstalled so no worries about that.
I heard the build quality/screen sucks. I was looking at those. Only strong in specs.
Haha, 3000 USD? Get an MSI GS70 2QE. It'll do whatever you want it to do, literally.
3000 the ceiling. Under it is DEFINITELY preferred. Plus: das uglee.
Well... it's DEFINITELY under. And uhh, ok, I guess it's ugly? Sorry I tried to help.
go onto eurocom, they have the best selection, and pricing of quality workstation laptops. also maybe get a gt titan? i know its above budget, but still. better yet make yourself a suitcase pc for 1200 with gtx 980 ti, and get yourself a nice thin touchscreen ultrabook instead of one expensive workstation/gaming laptop.
heres a good example, https://pcpartpicker.com/b/XpWZxr however id make one with a screen, and maybe not use water cooling. you then get a dell xps 13 for word, and what not, and use a streaming application to do rendering, and gaming off of the suicase pc on the xps 13.
thanks
thats stupid.
how is it stupid? maybe youre just too dumb to see a good idea.
@TheCynicalAnarchist That's not a laptop. He wants something he can carry around., not something he can drive around.
Don't say that someone is dumb when his first post states what he wants fairly clearly.
you can carry around a suitcase pc, thats the purpose of a suitcase pc. there are outlets every where so its not a problem, plus you can get a battery for it, and make a low power usage profile with low clocks, and maybe like only having two cores enabled. number two theres the xps13 or something similar, youre gonna have internet pretty much everywhere you go so you can use it to stream your desktop from your powerful suitcase pc which uses actual desktop parts. it fits his requirements more than perfectly, and hes the one called my idea stupid, i didnt throw around names first.
I think that speaks for itself. Your idea simply didn't fit what he was thinking of.
Please try to act mature. Starting some flame war over something so trivial is a waste of energy. "He did it first" is a fairly weak argument to just about everything, and he never directly attacked you, he just thought the idea was silly.
I asked for laptop advice for school. I'm not logging around a big suitcase to each class and lab. Is not a good Idea. Plus I just built a desktop I'm perfectly happy with. What is wrong in your brain that makes you think this is a good idea?
So what would you recommend? Besides the msi, if course
edit: The m3800 has caught my eye
I rather like the Lenovo Y50-80 or whatever, and Y40 is nice too, but the GPU is a little lacking, your models would look a little dumb, depending on the software you use.
I currently use a Lenovo G510 with WIndows 8.1 Pro N and Solidworks. It works fine, not the prettiest models are seen when I'm working on it, but the CPU power for whatever is worth it. I have a desktop for pretty things.
