I found the Steelseries Shift on sale for $85 inc. shipping, and there's a Razer Blackwidow on sale for around the same price on Amazon, not sure about shipping on that one. Which one should I get? Or should I get a different one?
I prefer the quality of Steelseries, but the shift is a rubberdome keyboard and the blackwindow is a mechanical keyboard, so there is no contest, go with the blackwindow. For some reason Razer thought it would be a good idea to make blackwidow glossy... which means it would start looking grimy in a matter of moments, so be prepared to wipe it down constantly.
If you can find a Cooler Master QuickFire Pro for that price I'd go for that, those boards are seriously solid for a very reasonable price.
I might get a lot of flack for this, but the Microsoft sidewinder X4 is hands down the best keyboard I have ever used. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823109191
I've had a shit ton of keyboards, from the logitech G15 to the Razer Blackwidow. I couldn't stand the clicking of the mechanical keyboard, my G15 got wrecked by a bottle of water, my razer SC2 maruader didn't have arrow keys, etc. I would choose the sidewinder x4 over all of them.
Have you tried a mechanical keyboard with quiet switches like Cherry Mx Browns? I personally haven't tried them, but I do know the blue switches on the Blackwidow are very loud compared to the browns they use on the stealth version.
Yes, you will get flack for that... My brother had that keyboard and gladfully tossed it out when he got the Das Keyboard.
That said, I also don't like blue switches, I'm a very heavy typist and the switches are far too light for me to use properly, doesn't feel good to me, my favorite keyboard is the Steelseries 7G, solid black switch keyboard that give perfect resistance and has a steel backplate. I'm one of the few people who makes a lot of noise with a black switch because I slam the keys and it gives a solid crack sound. For the record it doesn't hurt my WPM too much being such a heavy typist.
I haven't tried the quiet switches yet, I'm sure I'll end up using one someday.
The X6 is shit, but I love the X4. Haven't had a single issue yet, and it doesn't require any extra bullshit like Logitech's Setpoint or whatever garbage Razer installs. My razer Lycosa actually got tossed out a third story window into a dumpster because the stupid fucking media player controller would keep opening Media Player over and over and over until I would reboot or smash the top right corner of the keyboard. It did that shit from day one, after about a week I just yanked out the usb and tossed it out the window of my apt into the dumpster.
Thanks for the reply, I decided to just go for the Shift, since on Amazon they price for shipping is pretty expensive to New Zealand and the Shift is from a New Zealand website, so there's less shipping fees and less time waiting.
Yeah I've seen the X6, my brother has one, it doesn't seem that bad, just not my type(lol) of keyboard, to be honest, it doesn't feel the same when typing on it, the X4 looks pretty good, and it would suit my PC, but does it feel the same as the X6? Also I'm a fan of steelseries products so I'd also like to get a bigger collection of their products.
Okay, I ended up getting the Microsoft Sidewinder X4, so far, it's pretty good. The lighting in the X6 is much better in my opinion though, other than that, typing feels good, much better than the old, standard microsoft keybaord I used to use. Thanks everyone.
