Notepad++ or context. Both are great.
Brackets or sublime for free solutions, webstorm/phpstorm for paid solutionsÂ
edit* sublime  is a paid solution, but has a free trial available
Â
I'm so jaded because of notepadd++, nothing is good enough in comparison for me. If you use Windows, then Notepad++ is my suggestion, I have dual boot on my laptop just for it.
sublime ftw
I just love GEdit, I use it on both Linux and Windows.
I used to use Notepad++ but I like the Filebrowser plugin in GEdit, it allows me to navigate through folders right in the editor.
Have you tried Microsoft Expression Web 4? It's free to download and use, very nice editor and preview function.
Notepad++ is my goto editor for anything web related.
Brackets, it's clean and simple.Â
Since discovering you can do HTML and CSS in Visual Studio that's my new favourite.
+1 Notepad++ and Sublime Text
Komodo Edit 8 is cool, as well as Sublime Text 2
User Friendly: Brackets
Powerful features: Sublime Text
Fast: Notepad++
Vim
I know people have already said this, but Sublime Text 2 or 3 are wonderful programs. It'll ask you to pay for it but just keep hitting cancel. It's the same as WinZip, just keep hitting cancel.
+1 for Komodo. Â Powerful, easy, free, cross-platform (Linux/Mac/Win).
Anyone coding professionally (or even as a serious hobby) should consider the full IDE. Â It's definitely worth the cost.*
* I am a customer; not compensated in any way.
Text editors are good, sublime, notepad++.
but I think if you're serious about web-frontend coding it's time to use IDE.
Webstorm is my choice. http://www.jetbrains.com/webstorm/Â
Windows: Notepad++
Mac: Sublime
Linux: GeditÂ
I only occasionally do basic HTML pages, but when I do I use Notepad++ just because its so simple and fast and free
