Good (cheap-ish) Gaming Headset?

I'm looking for a good gaming headset so that I will have a good quality mic to communicate with my teammates, and have good sounding headphone. I'd like to also be able to have the 'directional awareness' where I can really see where the noise is coming from around me.

I'd also like to listen to music with them, and hopefully to be moderately cheap. Probably $50-100, hopefully around $50 or $60 but I could extend it to $80 or $100.

So, recommendations? Thanks.

Don't bother with these 'gaming headsets'. They're just rubbish sounding headphones with mics attached. They benefit you're supposed to get from the multiple speakers per ear doesn't actually work. Get some audio-technica ath m50 s and a cheap mic. That'll be your best bet

Well the reason I wanted one was to have the built in mic. right now I'm using my sony headphones, with a little plastic kind of $.05 airplane headset piece of crap over it with a little mic on it. Do they sell like ones taht go on your desk instead of on your head? That'd be cool

Yes, Theey have desk mics and not that much but they have incredible quality just look them up and get a pair of good headphones like philips citiscape uptown or ath m50s the m50s run for about 115 on amazon and the philips are 150 retail but on amazon can be found for 100 brand new

$100 is a little bit much for me to spend on just headphones now. I'd way rather just get a pair of $50 ones that are decent but not super amazing quality and spend $50 towards a keyboard and other stuff

How are the ath m30s?

You can go with the Steelseries Siberia V2, good bang for bucks, and their positional sounding is not bad considering their price. And you don't need a beast soundcard either, just get a ASUS Xonar DG (25 bucks) and that will blow any onboard sound until you get to the 200-300ish mobo.

The Siberia is a headset, so you have a mic included. It's not off the hook quality, but not bad either, perfect for a "cheapish" headset.

And if you want to up your game later, get the Audio Technika AD-ATH700, this is the best headphones for positional sounding in my book. But you do need quite a good soundcard to go with it.

I mainly game in FPS, so I use directional sounding a lot, hope my limited knowledge can help you somewhat.

I think I'm going to get JVC HA-RX700

I am currently using bose headphones ( I know I know....) with a DG and also I bought a Antlion mod mic, which sound amazing. The mic sounds around 30$ and you can turn your headphones into a headset. I like my setup, mainly cause if I get bored of the bose I can get a diffrent pair of headphones and not a complete rehaul of my set up.

The Antlion modmic is a microphone that attaches onto your headphones. Heres a quick picture of it.modmic

Get the Creative Fatal1ty headset. Works fine for me, but watch out for the wire cause its gets curly
