Going to buy water cooler for first time, any tips/suggestions?

I'm going to replace my current cpu fan, the hyper 212, with a cheap closed loop water cooler http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181038

I've never installed water cooling and the whole process seems daunting, are there any tips on installing it/ maintaining it that a noob should know?

It may look like rocket science if you never had one but its really simple. It installs pretty much like a normal fan the only thing you might get hung up on is where to install it or if you should use push or pull. 90% of every install instructions for water cooling are going to say use your radiator as an intake and mount it in the front. But everyone mounts theirs as an exhaust on the top, due to the fact that very few cases allow the radiator to be mounted in the front.

after you install it just set your fans to where you like them

Screw that weak shit. Throw every dime you have at some EK blocks and Bitspower fittings.

I'll stick with XSPC blocks and barbs :)

lol +1 Raystorm=clean and beautiful.

Caveman: Noted, not as parnoid about installing water cooling

Ratzzz/STN: Yes I did have a previous post about this but it was in build a pc which had little to do with, I've made up my mind that I will get low profile RAM AND most likely depending in this post, a water cooler for my cpu. My case has 2 spots at the top for 120mm fans and I assume that a 240mm radiator will do fine there.

Braysive: I wish I could afford that :(

NickF: I'm not sure which XSPC water coolers are good.

Sorry for the delay on the replies

I'm sorry ... I was distracted and had you confused with someone else ... no offense meant... and I think it is a good deal BTW

Ok then unless anybody has any objections i'll buy the H100. However I also noticed there is a H100i, is that any good for its 10$ difference?

I would grab any asetek built cooler as a first timer. The H55 and h110 are both examples of this. You can use it on your gpu later with a nzxt bracket for 30 bucks once you decide to start building a loop. This is what ill be doing versus getting the extra radiator and gpu block during my initial purchase. I been using a kuhler 920 for 2 years on a i7 3820 my temps are lower then they were on air. Vesus air they take up less room, direct heat out of the case better, are more case compatible, cost the same as the air performing equivalent , and have cool software to monitor your temps.

lol I was joking, those companies are generally overpriced. XSPC doesn't do AIO coolers but they have a good custom loop starter kit that is pretty well priced.

+1 for the NZXT bracket. Those are excellent.

The h110 is for 280mm mounts, but the biggest i have is 240mm

The h55 from what I can tell is a quiet version if the h60, if it is then i'd prefer the h60. However won't both the h55 and the h60's performance be worse than a h100 because it only has one fan?

H100 would have much better performance due to a much larger surface area for dissipating heat.  I would just get the H100.

TBH for ~$75 I'd go with a Noctua tower air cooler but that's just me.

Then i'll probably still stick with the h100 but i'll wait a few more days for more suggestions before buying it.

Well due to the lack of any other suggestions I guess I'll go for the K100 as more people and reasoning have supported it. However just in case i'll wait until Friday afternoon before I buy it in case there any other suggestions.

Omg why have I never thought of it? Thank you Relinquis, I will rebuild my computer inside of a glorious water dispenser where my parts will be igloo-freezing

Well, they are not perfect and good research is required. They are a good option for the stuff they fit.

I still want my pc in a frig!! We are a little closer to that, tho.
