Got a Gtx 750ti and a i7 6700k dont know which one to go for, currently on 720p monitor and everything seems ok but i think its time to upgrade
i don't think you should upgrade until you are ready for 4k.
1440p is way better than 1080p, like 1080p isn't even that big of an upgrade from 720p. However i use two 970's for my one 1440p monitor, i don't know if your 750ti will be able to handle it as far as gaming goes.
I was running a 750 Ti OC'd to 1350MHz (just for fun to see how it would do) on the core on my 1440P panel. it was not very enjoyable and I only tested Fallout 4.
Perhaps if you can find a fairly cheap 1080P panel or one that you actually want, the I would go for 1080P.
1080P has held my buddy quite a while with his 750 Ti.
Also always best to use the rule of thumb, is your hardware absolutely holding you back? if no, then no need to upgrade.
Sure a lot of us want to see those 100+ frames sometimes but its pointless if you are on a y0Hz panel.
I would start checking out retail outlets where you actually get to see the monitors.
Sometimes it is a tradeoff between size and resolution.
When you see what you really want you'll just know.
I was nearsighted in jr high, I am 54 now. For me 4k is a complete waste
Wat, 1080p from 720p is more noticeable than 1440p from 1080p. Heck, the difference between 4K and 1080p was barely larger than 1080p to 720p.
This completely depends on how you use your computer, if gaming is your primary concern then there is no real need to upgrade unless you are unsatisfied with the quality. If that is the case then 1080p is a good upgrade in visual quality. On the other hand if you are looking for productivity usage and gaming is secondary you can go 1440p and run games at lower resolutions. You could even go for 2160p and run games at 1080p. For productivity I would suggest the size of the screen fit the resolution, imo ~24 inch @ 1080p, ~27 inch @ 1440p, and ~42 inch @ 2160p. Gaming on the other hand its up to you as the bigger screen fills up your vision more, depending on how close you sit, and you get a higher concentration of detail the smaller it is. The difference between 720p and 1440p is the same as 1080p to 2160p pixel wise. Percentage wise that's 25% while 720p is around 44-45% of 1080p.
Not in resolution i'm sorry but 1440p will spoil you. i game at medium settings 1440p over max settings 1080p. that should tell you something.
1440p. You can upgrade your GPU and probably will do way more often than the Monitor.
In that case i really think he should get a 4k, They're becoming so cheap it's worth it to buy a 32inch 4k.
Sort of, a 750ti just doesn't have the bandwidth to even push 5fps on most games it will stall and crash, i had one and a 4k screen. If it was a 760,770,780,970,980,980ti,1060,1070,1080,Titan then yes. But not with a 960 or a 750ti.
i did say sort of, if he invests a bit more at the same time it would be worth it but 32" 4k are still pricey and none offer gsync or freesync.
True i would really advise him to not upgrade at all right now.. until he's able to upgrade both monitor and gpu.
You will definitely prefer to game the the monitor's resolution even if you sacrifice settings, I 'm using a 2160p 40 inch Samsung TV as a monitor, primarily for programming, but I still prefer low settings @ 2160p over running lower resolutions. I have a 960 but the games I run are generally not very demanding(most of them are happy to run at 2160p at their max settings with 50+ fps which I am more than happy with).
There are a lot of factors to consider as well, I would probably go for a higher refresh rate 1440p 27 inch over a 32 inch 2160p, although with a 750ti I don't know how much more than 60Hz, if that, at 1080p it could handle in recent games.
What's your budget?
Also your system is really oddly stacked you could have probably gotten a GPU and a CPU upgrade
A CPU upgrade? With a 6700k I think its set for years to come. the GPU on the other hand could use an upgrade if going for gaming at anything above 1080p.
Pretty sure he didn't have a 750ti with a 6700K before, seems he dropped everything on his CPU
I play newer and more demanding games at 1440p, it makes a difference, but not as big as you claim when compared to 1080p vs 720p
oh i was basing it off GTA 5 with visualv mod, 1440p maxed out,
i tested 1080p maxed out
and 720p maxed out, Not a big difference in visuals, sorry but i don't recommend 1080p for op.
Either get a 1440p or a 4k or don't even upgrade yet.
From my experience I just can't on 720p for a main monitor, it's too small and I used to play a decent amount of MMOs at 768p(laptop) and the UI is way too cramped as well as using it for other things such as browsing. At least for me it was a much better experience at 1080p. I think on some games it's fine at lower resolutions, I was playing overwatch on a old projector that did 800x600 and it looked fine to me.
I concor with you and with price drops on new monitors if OP is spending the money id go all out. However, if we consider that he could upgrade to a used 1080p monitor for around 20-40 bucks that seems like a damn good value.
I love my 1440p screen and I had a 1080p screen sitting right next to it for around 2 years and over time I began to notice the lack of resolution more and more. I mostly used my 1080p screen for web browsing so maybe that's why it took me longer. All the collars look more vibrant on my screen and text looks crisper I wouldn't trade this monitor for anything.
