Firewall, network monitoring tool......

oh ok like wireshark.

I have the paid version. It is good software and works well. Im not exactly sure if it is worth the price. I was initially fascinated watching all the connections my system was making to thew web. If you really want to keep tabs on what is happening on a particular system without rooting through massive firewall logs, this software is very nice. I use to use ZedLan Log analyzer for windows firewall. It is nice too but not nearly as polished as GlassWire.

I was excited about it and hoping to find some "unwanted" network connectivity that I could clamp down on.... but nope. This would be lots of fun to install on a machine riddled with malware. On a clean machine it's just a pretty graph the sits in the tray and occasionally notifies you.

Not quite. Wireshark is a monitoring tool that is more a raw packet sniffer listening on the interface itself. Where GlassWire is more of a dashboard type monitoring software with some basic firewall rules and detection. GlassWire focuses more on ease of use and alerts for suspicious activity.

On a side note if you're looking for something like Wireshark but easier to look at, The Fiddler is a pretty neat tool.

The reason why?

I think its a great tool for monitoring your network traffic.
it also has some cool feutures to block things.
However wenn i´m working on my desktop, i dont want to be bottered with tools that constantly warn me wenn i´m going to view a webpage, or whatever i do online.
i think it would just annoy me in the long run, because no matter what site you are visiting, traffic analyzing happens allnost everywhere.

I thought it would annoy me as well, however its a one time only pop up per instance. so after a day or two I hardly ever get any popups unless there is any new activity.

This morning Nvidia was trying to call home to its update server without me telling it to. i was on mobile capped data as well, so glass wire saved my ass(and my wallet)!

Cool, thanks for the link.....

Actually a day after I made the thread I installed it on Win 7 running in a KVM, basically I wanted a easy way to see network traffic coming out of the KVM since I updated Win 7 to the point it is asking me to upgrade to Win X, and I had installed Spy Bot Anti-Beacon earlier so I wanted some conformation that it was doing it's job. Glass Wire gives a easy to see graph of current activity with history so it's easy to tell if the two pieces of software are doing their job. So Far So Good! Lol.
