Hello guys. it's been a while since I've built a PC and someones asking for a build. The budget is $1200 AUD and the purpose is for gaming, recording and rendering. What are the dos and don'ts these days. Since my last build RAM is hella expensive and there's a whole heap of new cpus to understand. The plan so far is to get a GTX 960, a samsung 850 evo ssd 120gb.
My areas of trouble are:
intel core i7 4790 - is it worth it for the rendering aspect of things? or should i just go for an i5
asrock h81m motherboard - is this motherboard going to blow up? do i need to spend more money in this area (ps no overclocking in this build)
December had the $750 budget comp. Good starting point -- prob more ram and a better video card than what they recommend. I would prob go with a Ngivida EVGA 970 at this point, 4G video card. Maybe sped a little extra money for a good IPS monitor based on your budget, or get more/better Ram CPU.
For your purposes of rendering I would highly recommend 16G over an 8G setup.
16gb ram, z97 board, i7 has very minimal performance again over i5, go with a r9 280x not a 960, its better in every way. 850 for speed, mx100 for extremely decent value/money,
Unless you are overclocking, just pick a motherboard that has a Z97 chipset and your required features/aesthetics/colour scheme. Mobo plays such a minor role in system performance now, you can get whatever. If you do overclock you can get away with any board but I personally like to pick ones with a better layout VRM, although difference made in top clock is less than 5%. Don't cheap out on a PSU though. EVGA has very good 750/850watt G2 Supernova which is the only one of that range I'd recommend if you are doing a multi GPU build (you will only need 750 watt at most, you can run 2 290X's off that), if you are only ever going to use one GPU seasonic has two wicked little units. The G series 550 or 650watt (you can actually run 2 970's off this.) they are both pretty much the same design, no shenanigans changing the innards in the same line of products like some companies do.
so if i were to use this motherboard and this ram does the ram underclock to 1600 or something like that? this is like the cheapest 16gb ram kit they have in stock and the motherboard does not mention being able to run 2133 ram. Is this a disaster waiting to happen or will it work?
