Girlfriend's Build

Hey guys, this is my first post and I figured I should make it an intro to a build log.

Heres the Build as I have it planned today.

CPU: AMD A10-5800k

GPU: ASUS Radeon HD 6670 GDDR5 1gb

Mobo: MSI FM2 AMD A85X

PSU: Corsair 430w Builder series

RAM: 8gb Corsair XMS3

Case: Apevia X-Dreamer4 (pink)

HDD: Seagate 1tb 7200 RPM

no optical drive

Windows 7 64-bit

Any suggestions? Obviously this isn't a Balls deep gaming rig, but she still wants to be able to play Borderlands 2, Tera, and a few other graphically intense games.

Will post pictures as the build comes together.

Id opt for something like a AMD 955 Black Edition and a 7770 or 7790

any reason why? Could you show me a performance difference chart or something?

A discrete CPU and GPU will outperform an APU, even if it's using dual graphics like your build.

Mmkay, I looked into it, its also gonna save me 20 bucks and give TONS more options for future expandability and upgrades. Thanks!

For Borderlands 2, she may need a little more horsepower depending on the resolution and your definition of 'graphically intense games'. But tbh, the APU build is fine unless she gets into WoW or any of those other MMO's.

WoW is a dirty word in this house

Also she isn't a total freak about ultra settings like I am, and she'll be playing on a 720p display for a while.

Match your budget to the builds in the link below:

I'm not ordering everything at once, So my budget will probably end up being a bit more than if I were to set one today. Thats how I built my personal setup and I wound up with a 1400 dollar rig when I started with a 800 dollar budget. Patience really paid off for me.

Just a heads up. If she plans on playing TERA on an AMD build, it'll suck... Many AMD users have complained about that game.

It runs just fine on my 8150 45-60 fps on ultra at 1080, 35 fps FRAPSing 40 FPS streaming.

if you can wait it out to save some more, get a better GPU and a good AM3+ board like a GA 970A-UD3 or 990FX-UD3H so no matter what comes out AMD wise in the next year or two you can upgrade to whatever CPU they release.
