Hi guys,
a few weeks back I've bought a Gigabyte GTX 970 as an upgrade to my old 760.
The card had pretty bad coil whine or rather it buzzed any time GPU load got anywhere over 80%. So I've decided to RMA it.
Problem is that the replacement card produces exactly the same kind of noise.
Which got me wondering whether some other component could be at fault - I'll try the card in a friend's PC or alternatively try a different PSU in mine.
Got a Corsair HX 750W (overkill I know, but originally I had some plans to go for SLI), which upon closer inspection seems to start buzzing very audibly after some 10 minutes of full load on the system. So much so that it drowns out the card completely.
I've never noticed any such sound before I've got the new card though.
Anybody with prior experience who'd be willing to share some advice? I'm thankful for any help.
Happens to mine as well. Coil whine is a very prominent "issue" with most 970s. I've decided to stick with my card as it's not that bad and not necessarily indicative of any manufacturing defect or potential issue. I can't say that mine is all that bad though where it's drowning fans out or anything. Is the second card worse than the first do you think?
Honestly it sounds exactly the same.
As for the whine - I wouldn't mind if it whined at 200+ FPS, that's pretty normal, but it starts to buzz anytime I put any significant load on it, regardless of framerate.
It does it while playing Metro (which is about the most demanding game I have though), Serious Sam 3 or running Unigine Heaven.
And it gets worse the longer it's under load, listening to it I think the really loud noise comes out of the PSU, the card buzzes only slightly, with the side panel on I can't really hear it. It even persists for a few seconds after dropping back to Windows.
