Does anyone think that the system is actually good/going to be good in the near future? The reviews I have seen thus far have left a lot to be desired.
I honestly think for certain applications its a great system. In saying that I have not used or built in one.
I can see myself building one for my parents who just use their ancient computer to browse the internet and download/playback music. Also the projector model is a great idea for a business meeting room for doing keynote's or displaying documents etc.
Sure there probably is alot to be desired in performance in cpu/gpu heavy applications. But for someone that only uses their pc to browse the internet watch videos on youtube or type up simple documents/apply for jobs or download music and sync their phone/mp3 player they might love the simplicity of it and size of the unit and the fact that you only need to install a msata ssd, sodimm ram and install a os might actually appeal to someone wanting to build a simple pc for themselves but finds building a regular sized pc scary.
Just my thoughts.
I really appreciate your thoughts on the topic! I think that Brix is an interesting concept, just that it is broken hardware at the moment. I agree with you entirely about it being open for a HTPC, I also don't think that their gaming model will ever become a competitor for the Steam Machines coming out in the future. Also there have been a lot of rumors that the mSata doesn't even work on the models that have been purchased thus far. Would you ever buy one, GGGlynn, just for yourself?
I would love to see when they make one with a full on graphics card and if becomes upgradable and liquid cooled.
(Sorry about the late reply)
If I had the spare cash I would build one tomorrow for my tv (love the fact they are VESA mountable). I have seen some very interesting mouse/keyboard combo's for sale that nice compact that will complement it well.
I think a brix or a nuc would be quite useful in my loungeroom for watching youtube/twitch/movies also because I have a dedicated amp and surround speaker set up that I can run a HDMI output into it will be good for music playback instead of hooking my ipod into the AUX. But it would be more of a novelty item for me.
I totally agree about their gaming model, I feel like its sort of pointless especially as it costs >$600 in my country before you even add ram and storage. I think they shouldn't even bother with a gaming model instead work on a product that the pc users who want a dedicated pc but wont use it for anything intensive will want (which may mean sell them with soldered cpu's, ram the works and achieve a price point that those people will choose that over the latest cheap pc offering). They especially need to ship something that works (I haven't seen the rumors myself) but if they are shipping a fair number with msata ports that don't work that will kill consumer confidence in their bare bones products into the future no matter what they do.
