so i have a tp-link archer c2 gigabit router…on their site it says that all ports are gigabit and stuff…
i have 300mbit connection from isp and if i have only my computer connected with a cable i get 297mbit download on speedtest.net even if i am connected with multiple wireless devices to it.
but…when i plugged in my raspberry pi2 into it i can’t get over 100mbits…
but if i unplug it and use a wireless usb dongle and connect to it it gets back to 300…
edit: i know raspberry pi has 100mbps but the problem is that when i have raspberry pi AND desktop my desktop has 100mbps but when there is only the desktop connected directly through a cable and the raspberry and all my phones through wireless…my desktop has 300mbps
and with my desktop and laptop(but not really downloading or doing anything) wired and raspberry pi and 2 phones connected wirelessly i have this Speedtest by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test …this does not make any sense…
and this Speedtest by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test is a test with desktop wired, laptop running speedtest wireless with 25mbps download(makes sense because the desktop is using almost all the bandwidth) and raspberry pi and 2 phones connected but not doing anything…
nope...straight fibre into the router then 2 cables out, one in my desktop and one in my raspberry pi...let me check what happens if i connect my laptop through cable(without pi but with desktop) and see if that throttles my network
I doubt that. The router contains a gigabit switch which should be able to have different link speeds on each port. I've never seen a switch which couldn't do that and certainly not a gigabit switch. Have you tried plugging the pi into a different port? Also have you checked that you're not getting some sort of IP conflict? Or are you using DHCP for everything?
ok...so now i tried replacing the ethernet cable with another one AND switching the ports..i now have 297 mbps on both desktop and laptop at the same time...even if i am paying for 300mbps i get 600? that seems like a problem that i can live with....so i guess my nr 2 port on router had something and did all that stuff? now it seems to work i guess...i'll come back with an update if something else happens
ok...this is getting weird now...so earlier with the laptop it worked..now i plugged the cable into the rpi and it does the same stuff...different cable and port...ill try with laptop again...also can you tell me why the speed testing is not accurate and how can i speed test so it would be accurate? thanks in advance
While you are testing it with 100Mbps it will slow down much more the rest of your connection.
your modem might have problems handling independent connections, depending on your medium. If coax then that's your answer, performance drop will be even higher. You should also check specs of your router backbone speed, in theory it should be 5x speed of your port 1Gig. (so around 4.7-5.4Gbps) -- but who knows - it may be crap.
i have no idea how this works now....i have no coax or whatever..no modem just fiber coming directly to my apartment so now...with laptop and pc plugged in i get 300mbps but with pc and rpi i get 100...i just don't get it...if i go to router settings from my browser i think i use dhcp for everything...not sure what that means but yea..this is what i have here maybe you will understand and it can be useful
