Hey I have my old laptop setup as a network file server and I'm maxing out at 11-12 mbps speed when uploading or downloading files to it. Is my laptop the one slowing this down? Is it my router? Will buying a usb ethernet for my laptop help speed it up? please help Idk weather to buy a better router or not thanks
11-12 is pretty low even for a laptop, how does that speed compare to your other speeds you are getting?
Its the same for all computers when transfering files over the network. Now the laptop when I add a external hard drive will max out the usb 2.0 port. I think its my ethernet cables and my router. But I'm not positive
Again (like I said in your other post) are your speeds in Mbps or MBps. If they are in Mbps, then there are some issues that need sorting.
If they are in MBps then that is typical of a 100-Base connection. Most laptops don't have Gigabit NICs on them (Have no clue why) and thus will only run at 100-Base despite being on a faster network.
Determine if it is the limitations of the laptops NIC or your router.
Its my router
most newer ones do. like mine
