Hi there ! I've never really been a gamer, I've played a few games (I'll mention them below) but that's it. I started watching gameplay and walkthrought video and doing so brought to life my desire to game !
I've player portal 1 and 2 and loved both, I've also played minecraft and to be honest, it's nice but the fun dies 3 to 4 hours in for me. I've played Mirror's Edge and it's been my favorite game since. If I try to push back my memory I think I've played Assasin'S Creed 2 but I"m not sure. If I did, I'm pretty sure I did not even finished it.
For games I've played it's pretty much it. I've of course played some mario, golden eye and sonic on old school console when I was young. I've downloaded Black Mesa because Half Life is as far as I was told, one, if not the best PC game ever. So far I really love it :D
So I'm seeking to get recommendation, classic game, old or new (but I don't have a recent PC so these might not be for now), side scroller, 8bit, sonsole game to be run on an emulator, I'm open !
I like dark and moody games if it's of any help :)
Thanks, the unanswered.
What kind of games are you interested in? I can either suggest you games by category or just mention random games, it's up to you

As I said I'm open to anything, I don't have any specefics categories in mind... I can say that FPS is at the bottom of my interest list but still, a good FPS with a good story will interest me I'm sure :)
There's a few categories that came to my mind in addition to those mentions in my original post, actions, rpg, mmo, adventure, platform. Thanks, it's really appreciated !
Since you probably are not biased with new game features I heartly recommend you play some classics that are great. Many gamers are turned down by their graphics and/or mechanics, but if you can go past that, they are great.
- System Shock 2: Dark, moody FPS/RPG in which a rogue AI has taken control of an orbital space station and you are the only one who can fight against it. It's the father of modern games like Bioshock and Dead Space. The game is full of lore and stories to find if you like that: audiologs, secrets, etc.
- Deus Ex: Another dark SciFi game set in a dystopian future. You are JC Denton, an augmented operative tasked to investigate the cause of a plague destroying the world. The game is an FPS/RPG but less horror/survival than SysShock2.
- Thief2 - The metal Age: You are a Garret, a thief in a cyberpunk elizabethian alternative world. It's lots of fun and is one of the best stealth FPS games out there.
- The Witcher: more of a modern game, but it's combat mechanics are really subpar compared to the new adventure/rpg games. It's a mature game where you take control of a mutant witcher who slays monsters for money. The game is really good if you focus in its story and dialog options, but falls short on gameplay.
- Icewind Dale II / Baldur's Gate / Planescape Torment: If you are into dialog heavy RPGs, Get them. They are all great in their own ways. I personally prefer Planescape because of the theme and setting, but both Icewind games and Baldur's Gate are superb picks too.
PS for this section: You can get those games anywhere, but if you are not much into tinkering option files, and making things run properly, I'd recommend getting them on gog.com because those guys make sure older games run on newer OS like Win7 or 8.
Another category you might like is the indie game scene. these games are usually not hardware intensive and somewhat more focused on 1 gimmick or mechanic than AAA games. That being said, there are some great games out there that deserve some time in the limelight.
- FTL: Cruel, enjoyable, space roguelite/strategy game. You start with a ship and some crew and must make your way across the galaxy to deliver an urgent message. In the way you will fight random enemies on randomized locations on random systems which will sell/drop random stuff. Its replayability is endless and you may have hours of fun albeit some hair-pulling moments.
- Dungeons of Dredmor: Another cruel roguelike but this time set in the standard D&D fantasy world. Looks cutesy from outside but trust me, this game's a b*tch.
- Mark of the Ninja: Stealth/action sidescroller. Really good.
- Rock of ages: if Monty Python was remade a game, this one would be it.
- World of goo: Strategy/Puzzler where you use goo blobs to create structures to get to the exit. Really nice looking and soundtrack.
Wow, I will check these games out ASAP! Thank you for your response!
I forgot to add another disclamier on the old games section I wrote: They are 90's hard, so tread lightly. System Shock 2 can be a real pain in the ass since you can screw up in the long run. Be sure to use some kind of guide for setting the skill points without spoiling the plot.
