Getting D3D11 mode to work in Zoom VIrtual machine?

I’m using Zoom with Windows 11 Guest in VMware workstation, 3d acceleration enabled.

Unfortunately it runs in “GDI” video rendering mode under zoom’s settings and he video ends up feeling abit lagged.

I haven’t tested other environments (hyper-v, MacOS Host, etc) .
I’m wondering why zoom doesn’t “like” using hardware acceleration in a VM. What’s my best bet for using Zoom in a VM? Do I really have to use unRAID + GPU passthrough or is there some workaround I can use?

Side by side view of Zoom in a Win11-VM Versus running on bare metal Win-10

if your running any kind of vm on windows you will need gpu passthrough to get hardware acceleration.

You didn’t mention your host OS. Let’s assume Linux.

Why don’t you use Zoom on Linux?

Linux support probably won’t be enabled by my employer for Microsoft Intune.
