Gentoo on AMD64

Het guys, having some issues. Ive been trying for days to follow the Gentoo handbook for installing to amd64 systems. I've attempted many of their methods even resorting to genkernel and all basic install settings. But After I reboot grub presents me with grub> I direct it to the kern and it follows through to boot but once it's detecting my hardware I think that is where is just stops loading through the rest of the boot process.

i was hoping to maybe get some insider advice or some one may have the same issue. also if anyone could give me an example of a partition scheme that would be considered for a build that is minimal and fast I would really be thankful for that as I am having trouble understanding LVM and the use of /var and /tmp on seperate partitions with different FS's to handle them. If you need more info  ill respond back quickly. Thank you

It's impossible to answer the question correctly without more info, mate, I'm sorry. Are your volumes mounted at boot? What do you define as boot, boot to grub or initramfs? Grub rescue means that your system just doesn't boot. Does it present you with grub menu, and if so, can you edit the parameters to verbose instead of quiet so that you can see where the system hangs exactly?
