Garmin GPS SD card issue

Hopefully this question doesn't get flagged for not being "Tek enough" however I'm at my wit's end trying to get my garmin nuvi 55 to install (hell, even recognize) the micro SD card that I've added. It shows that it exists if I open up the Garmin system folder from my computer, but somehow isn't recognized past that. When I update the maps the Garmin software shows no SD card to install it on. I've tried every possible solution that I could find via Google (formatting, etc). Has anyone else had this issue, and if so, did you find a solution?

so, you've actually formatted your computer and reinstalled windows? Or did you format your sd card? If so, then our potential solution will be narrowed down greatly.

go to devmgmt.msc and disable / uninstall sd card reader drivers. Then uninstall all applications associated with the garmin. Run ccleaner and clear out all temp folders and clean registry to get rid of leftover keys.

download a new copy of the garmin software from the website.
install drivers from your laptop / mobo manufacturer for your sd card reader.

If formatted windows ---

Check for chipset / framework / USB COM drivers from your system manufacturer or motherboard manufacturer.

try a new usb cable or try a different usb port (if you have a sd card adapter).
