Gaming Rig for streaming/recording with Xsplit

My last thread died so I wanted to try one more time...

I am looking to build a machine that can handle gaming while livestreaming and/or video capture with programs such as Fraps and Xsplit.

every thread I read or review I watch benchmarks left and right and blah blah its all coming down the middle for me...  My guess is that an 8350 build 16G ram 7950 Ghz video will do more then fine.  But again I am torn if Intel or AMD would be a better fit.

I also worry with the 1155 socket soon dead, what will be my later limitations?

Also I am curious if the the Nvidia based GPU will be better for streaming as it does for Premier?

I have been out of the modders loop too long and my current machine is dead sauce...  I would be more patient in doing all the research required,  but I am pressed for time with this build.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated guys all opinions will be taken seriously and I would hope that this thread would also help the next multi-task gamer that is looking for the same as I have not seen to many posts focused on gaming/live stream builds ;)

your best bet is amd all the way for everything but please consider using 990x chipset

Not bad. I'd get the Xigmatek Gaia instead of the Loki. It's $5 more and a good bit better.

Appreciate the responses guys!

Does anyone else have any further input or references that I should check out?  Ill buy you a beer ;)

Seems everyone has a complete different build to recommend.  This build is proving to be much more difficult then I thought it would be.  So many damn options and different opinions its giving me a headache!  I am all about getting what works better I am not biased to any particular brands.  I dont mind spending a little extra if its really worth it.  So far most builds ive been facing are around $1000.

I currently have plenty of storage will be getting a single 120 SSD for my OS and a few other programs...

and I have been looking at the HIS 7950 for vid card

As well as going back and forth between the HAF 932 and NZXT Phantom for a case.  The new Phantom 630 is pretty damn cool too but having a hard time finding where to purchase it yet...  The reason im going for a higher end case is so I dont have to buy one again later on plenty of room and crazy amounts of airflow is the mission.

Again im open to any and all opinions and appreciate any help you guys can send my way ( as well as anyone else following this thread )

i use the haf 923 and its a nice case but  you should get some low noise fan adapters for it. if you want to water cool in the future then its a very nice case you can fit a 3x120mm 60 mm thick with push pull fans in the top and if you cut out the hardrive cages you can put a 200 mm radiatior in the front. as well (you'll need to mod the cas tho. if you want a more up to date case for water cooling the NZXT 810 is very good. whats the budget for your build you could end up with better parts. let me know what you can spend min to max and ill give you a few options. and do you want to water cool in the future?

Id say that its possible to water cool I have been looking at the new NZXT Kraken that Logan had mentioned on one of the recent vids.  I really like the NZXT Phantom 630 if you guys havnt seen it yet check it out its pretty slick!  But seeing how its pretty new im unsure if i can snag one within my time constraints.  I did see somewhere that it was 179 MSRP but havnt seen it listed anywhere yet.  found a review on the youtubes.  Similar to the 810 but fan locations were moved around and a pretty cool graphite type color.

Budget would be around $1000 bucks or so.   Id say spending anymore then that really isnt super necessary, but as stated my times, im open to suggestion.

This is what I keep coming back to in some way or another

I am unsure what memory would be best.  My guess is 16G would be best for streaming/editing. (I was looking at some CAS 8 Mushkin as well but DDR3 - 1600 instead)

Would the Mushkin 1600 CAS 8 do better for me over the 1866 Gskill CAS 9?

My last question would be optimal CPU cooler?  I wont be clocking to some crazy amount so I dont feel top of the line stuff is necessary.  Hyper 212 Evo still doing really good or is the Gaia better?

I would suggest going for an AMD FX 8350 and an Nvidia graphics card (as long as you're going to be recording, otherwise you'd be fine with AMD).

So is it safe to say then that NVIDIA based GPU will perform better while streaming?  I know it does better for editing but I would rather have better quality while gaming then quicker rendering times if I had to make a choice.  Does anyone stream that can give some input?

I don't think Nvidia will really help with streaming at all. You'll just get faster rendering times.

If I were you, I'd opt out for the 7950 or 7970 and the 8350. As far as rendering times go, the 8350 will do just fine, and the AMD gpu will do pretty well, whether you go with 50 or 70.

As far as your memory goes, the 8350 ram controller supports up to 1866. I'd go with that. I found a 16gb 4x4 kit with a cas latency of 8 and a speed of 1866. It's a little pricey, and if you only have four slots you won't have any room to expand, but I think it'll serve you pretty well. It's too bad the color is so hideous though.

Ok so what im getting here and from other posts and reads... the build that I am looking at ( http://pcpartpicker.com/p/AeH7 )should do pretty solid with both gaming and streaming as well as later rendering if needed.  Granted render times would be a bit slower but from what im seeing the difference isnt worth 200-300 bucks unless rendering was the main focus.  Performance per dollar it seems to a damn good choice.  Other then that the last concern is the cpu cooler...  I would assume a h100 or h60 would out perform the 212 Evo...  Best bang for the buck for AMD3+ cooler with slight OC on the 8350? Maybe some references for myself and other readers to check out?  You guys are awesome this forum has been the best for valid opinion and response so far!  Been a huge help!

( Once the cooler is decided the order goes in ill be happy to make a vid or post about the build and show the end results as well for those who are still unsure of what to do with your next build.  I see a lot of people slapping down build lists without any real validation as to why its the best in their opinion. Also I believe that Logan had intended on doing some new AMD build videos after their recent findings with the 8350 marks. I would keep an eye out for those on the youtubes ;)  it should be pretty interesting how things pan out in the next few months! )

Xsplit? AMD's FX-8350 seems like a great choice and is a little cheap, but make sure you use a Nvidea card that has cuda if your going to be editing

yes Xsplit is live streaming software.  But it also allows you to capture video at the same time as well as adit the video on the fly if you want ( preloaded commercials, intro's, outro's etc)  Makes things a little faster for the editing process in the end.

I made some changes that will give you better performance while rendering, and you'll probably get better or the same performance gaming as well. I also upgraded the CPU cooler and SSD to make it even more powerful. I changed the case to save a little money. I personally think it's a much better build for what you're going to be using it for, and you'll be able to overclock your CPU higher in order to get even shorter render times and better streaming quality. Check it out and let me know what you think:

Also, you've forgotten to include a power supply and storage drive in your build, unless you're just getting those from an old computer or something.

the 3k ssd has better read and write preformance thatn the samsung 840 ssd. if you want a better ssd than the 3k you should get the vertex 4 or the new ocz vector besides that you have a very good build.

idea http://pcpartpicker.com/p/AkKN

you should change the ram and the ssd in your built. if you can get 2x8gb sticks you can upgrade to 32gb with out replacing all of your ram.

Are you quite sure about that, or are you just making assumptions? Last time I checked the Samsung 840 Pro was one of the best performing SSDs on the market, and I can't imagine that the vanilla 840 falls very far behind. So far, Samsung's controller has been kicking the Sandforce controller's ass. Don't make me look up benchmarks if I don't have to.

Also, I chose EVGA over PNY just because I trust EVGA more. You can't really go wrong with a GTX 670 that cheap though...unless of course it dies on you.

yes the 840 pro is a good ssd that would be faster than the hyper 3k but samsung has alot of sku's of the 840 drive. the one in this build ( http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Ajr3) has a write iops of 32k and write speed of about 130mb/s http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147188&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

the 3k is 75k iops write and 500+ mbs and the reads are very close.

I changed the 670 to make room in the build for an h100. the air cooler was good for an air cooler. it just depends on how much overclocking will be done.

Yeah, but the read speeds are much more important on an SSD than the write speeds. You're really only going to write to the SSD once or twice, but you're going to read from it many, many times.

I understand why you switched the graphics card out for the PNY. I'm just not sure if I would personally go with PNY over EVGA, but for that price I might just chance it.
