A friend recently gave me a budget of $1400 to build him a PC and I just wanted to see what you guys thought. Also he already has peripherals, he would prefer to keep the rig single GPU, and air cooling is a must.

why did you open a new topic about the same question?
https://teksyndicate.com/forum/build-pc/what-do-you-think/188620
Its not realy handy to make multiple threads about the same question, allot of people where giving you some good advices in your other thread, but you did not react to that anymore? This is not how a forum works. Its also confusing for your self and other people.
So i will put a lock on the old thread for now.
Grtz Angel ☺
About your build,It looks totaly fine to me. Msi Z97 Gaming 5 mobo is basicly a good choice.
I would say very nice build.
The WD Caviar Black drive might be a bit of a money waste, because the the WD Blue drives are cheaper, and perform better. You basicly pay more for the 5 year warrenty on the WD black drives.

IMO you should stop being stubborn about the speed of the ram. All games with dedicated GPUs will run exactly the same within a margin of error on 1333mhz ram to 24billion hertz ram. So just get 16GB of 1600Mhz ram. You can use that extra money on a nice mouse and keyboard or a bigger GPU with some extra money from getting a better suited power supply like a 550w or 650w one.
There is indeed no diffrence between 1600mhz or 2400mhz ram.
i allways recommend 1600mhz or 1866mhz CL9 1.5V ram, for intel. Prices are very identical.
i didnt even noticed that he had selected those G.skill sniper 2133mhz rams, those are offcourse pointless. lol
i recommended the 1866mhz versions of the Snipers which are sollid ram´s.
Fast ram only makes sense, if you build a apu or igpu based system.
24 billion MHz ram... I must have this
Here is what I think you should do:

Me too. If DDR3 can do this... an APU looks fine. LOL :)
Any reason for the 24 Gigs of RAM in your list?
A 40g tub of thermal paste? Why? Surely one syringe would be more than enough.
Other wise good build.
why icefuzion when u can go mx-4 or liquid pro? Heck just throw in AIO Kraken X60, Noctua NHD-15, H100i in there for OC'ability.
One thing I don't like about WD drives is they're the fastest when empty. Seagates and other brands still preform near their rated speed at 50+% usage or more.
Not sure why'd he want a cooler better than that for a Xeon, but hey:
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/DmJP99
Because he can.
Just cause. There have been plenty of times I've wished I'd had more. There is a revised version with the H55 in place, but no idea why one would use that type of cooling on a Xeon. I chose the Xeon as I don't understand why you'd void your warranty for a few hundred MHz. Pointless if you screw up.
if you do pure gaming, then a Xeon is a bit of a waste imo, because a i5-4690K will perform better, especialy if you overclock it.
The Xeon is a locked i7 without the iGPU so how's it a waste?
Not to mention they support ECC RAM.
Because an overclocked i5 will perform better in gaming, then that locked Xeon.
If you are not an overclocker, and you do more then just gaming, like video rendering, and what not. Then a Xeon might be an interessting choice to look at. But for just gaming i would say skip it and grab an i5-4690k and have overclocking fun with it.
Agreed, atleast while so few games are taking advantages of more cores, it still is Ghz that does the gaming, however 1 Ghz on AMD is not as good as 1 on Intel.
