Gaming Pc / Hackintosh

Hey guys,

So my friend asked me to put a hackintosh together for him, for some reason he wants OS x -.-' (I'm already happy to convince him not to buy a macbook :D) Anyways, I picked a few parts and I want the opinion of you guys.

Requirements:

  • Modulair PSU
  • Gaming machine and general productivity, no adobe suite.
  • Make it snappy, he has to have the feeling he has a awesome pc, (SSD Etc...)
  • Run OS X.
  • Around €1000,= ($1300,=)

So these are the parts I picked for him:

CPU: Intel Core i5 3570k, Since he isn't using programs that take advantage of multicore CPU's.

Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Extreme 4, seems like a good motherboard, we are also going for a black and                orange build theme

GPU: Not quite sure, I have to choose between a Asus GTX 670 DC II 2gb or a XFX Radion 7970 Black edition with a cheap Physx Card. If you guys can share your opinions that'd be great.

Case: Corsair 200R, This will be heavily moddified to a Industrial looking G4 case, Expect a build log!

CPU Cooler: Corsair H60i, He wants the bragging rights to say his pc is "watercooled" ;p

RAM: Corsair vengeance 1600 MHz 2x4 gb, It's cheap.

PSU: Corsair CX750m, Its a cheap PSU with modulair cables. Also the cables don't look that ugly so no extentions needed except for the 24 pin.

SSD: Samsung 840 series 120 gb.

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1Tb

If you guys could share your opinions on this build I'd be awesome :)

BUMP

I can not stress this enough MAKE SURE THE MOBO CAN WORK WITH OSX!!  It wont work on just any mobo, anyway th gpu should be a 660 ti and save the money to go with a copy of windows 7 or 8 if u want to use it for gaming. Just run bootcamp and install windows.  If u r using this for only running osx Then there is NO REASON AT ALL to get tht kind of gpu, way too overkill, just get an i7 and a 650ti boost.  even with a 650ti boost u can run bf3 at ultra.

7950 mac edition, then you know it will work, also the sapphire 7950 might OC higher than an XFX 7970, since XFX have worse cooling than stock for the most part with the 7000s

Hey

i build a Dual Boot Hackintosh myself, please head to tonymacx86.com to check for your Parts.

I would recommend a Gigabyte MB, but some members got even Asus ROG MB working and also your choosen Asrock Extreme.

I also would recommend an Nvidia GPU, because it's natively  supported by MAC OS X

( I got a GTX 670 FTW myself^^)

All in all your pats should work fine with an Mac OS X install, but don't expect an 2h install ;-)

greetz

Waarom wil die uberhaupt een crapintosh? :P

but indeed you need a motherboard, what is capable to runn osx on, i readed also about gigabyte boards, should be able to do it..

Haha hij is een macfag ;p, als je niks van pc's weet ziet dat er allemaal heel leuk uit ;).

Yeah i'll look into the gigabyte boards, I'm not a huge fan of them though :/ My friend had a x79 one almost burn on him, he saw smoke coming out of his Bitfenix Colossus

What is your budget?

Also if you want hackintosh you would want this card http://goo.gl/uCjwm

For the motherboard I would use a gigabyte z77-ud5h.  I'm using a 3570k and a 670 with this motherboard and it works flawlessly. Though I've heard of people using other motherboards,  gigabyte boards are by far the most compatible.  I would also stick with nvidia for the card . OS 10.8.3 added support for and 7xxx series cards but I've had tons of problems with the update and my system.  10.8.2 works perfectly and all gtx6xx series cards have full support.  Don't worry about whether or not its a Mac edition card.  Those are for Mac pros just buy and gtx 6xx series. Also people with hackintoshes have mixed results with sli support so I wouldn't even try it.  Hope this helps

Hey,

Thanks for your help to begin with, I did accually check the tonymacx forum myself and I did a little check. The ASRock Mobo needs a modded bios to work. Since I'm not really a fan of gigabyte I'd rather avoid them.

I am looking at the GTX670 DC II, since I have the 680 version and I like it :D

Thanks again for the help!
