Gaming PC (goal: GW2 high, ultra settings)

Hello everyone,

First of all, thank you tek syndicate for the job you are doing. I watched many of your 'build a pc' videos that gave me some ideas about a gaming build I would like to have.

So, my budget is less than 1k euro and the prices are from my country's hardware stores. If anybody knows a good hardware web-store that ships parts in the EU I would be very happy if you provide a link.

I used the $1300 build as a base and made some adjustments to fit my budget.

The build with links (the website is in Estonian, however it is possible to see the prices):

  • Power Supply: Need help with this one
  • Optical Drive: not really significant

I need some help deciding on which power supply to purchase. Also, do you think I would be able to go with a cheaper GPU? Which one?

For GPU, I would go either GTX 670, GTX 660ti or HD 7950. the 670 is better performing than the 7950 and the 660ti is about the same.

For PSU I would go anything OCZ, Seasonic, XFX, or corsair. With this build you probably want something in the 750 watt range.

Thanks for the reply!

Are all those parts I listed compatible with each other?

I have a 660ti and i5 3570k. My gf plays GW2 which runs perfectly, although you don't need a heavy GPU for GW2 it seems to lean more on the CPU, but the 3570k can handle everything you throw at it.

The Seasonic G-series PSU's are comming in at a really good pricemark, I'd buy one of these if I were you. (550w Gold rated ~ €85) This is in Holland though, guessing from the site you're using you're Finnish or Estonian, right? Dunno what it would cost there.. Might be worth looking up.

A 7970 would definitely do it, but you would definitely get away with going down to a 7950 or maybe 7870 depending on your resolution.

Being objective, the options from nvidia you would be looking at would be the 660ti or the 670. But in general anything from the 660ti or 7950 up.

As for a power supply I want to reccommend you get at least a 750W PSU, then you will have room for any upgrades and will ease the load compared to a smaller Watt PSU at it won't be working closer to full load.

Also, I am not really familiar with the monitors nowadays. Which one would be good for gaming? I really like good quality picture (i guess this has something to do with the matrix) and in terms of size i think 23'' would be fine, even less would be ok. Not too expensive one of course. Any suggestions?
