Gaming PC for around £400

Hello,

I am trying to build a new gaming pc for around the price of a next gen console (Around £400) but would like a few pointers on what to purchase for this price to get the best performance for the money. I would prefer a Nvidia GPU but if I can get a bigger performance boost with AMD GPU's I will consider them.

I don't need to factor in the cost of windows as I have a licence already and this pc will only be used for games which are located on a large external disk. I also have a case around (Corsair 800D) which I could use for this build so we don't need to factor the price of a case either. I already have a high powered machine for everything else as my main computer (it just lacks in the GPU department and is non upgradable (Nvidia GT 750M 2GB GDDR5)

A build I have been recommended so far (AMD) http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/8w4jNG (I will likely change some parts but its a basic shell of what I have been recommended to get)

Also made a intel build with an upgrade path to both higher end i series CPUs if needed and overclocking (with a cooler of course) Any comments?

CPU Intel Pentium G3258 3.2GHz Dual-Core £43.19

Motherboard Asus Z97-A ATX LGA1150 £106.39 (Expensive because I want most of its features)

Memory Kingston Black Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 £58.18

Storage Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5" SSD £57.19

Video Card Gigabyte GeForce GTX 660 2GB £107.99

Power Supply Corsair 500W ATX12V £45.36

Total £418.30

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Are you going linix cause if not I dont see it worth the time or money if you have to pay $100 for an OS when your budget is 400

nice build, i have a 660 and i almost max most games

As said in my post I have a windows licence so it does not have to be factored into the cost of this build.

Try to squeeze an R9 270 (non-x) into the build. The 660 is a step down, and dated.

Consider the XFX 550W PSU. Better than the lower-end Corsair units, e.g the CX series.

If you want the upgrade path to higher-end Intel processors, then you should leave the platform as is.
