Gaming PC Build

PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/27yPx

I was wondering if this is a good build, if there is anything better for cheaper or better at the same price I could use, I heard Windows 8 is meh so should I stay away from that and stick with Windows 7? I'm open to suggestions, I still need a CPU cooler too, any suggestions on that?

Some of these parts are overkill for a gaming pc. 8gb is enough for all games.  you'll be fine with a 650-800W PSU for these parts and future expansions.  You'd be fine with a lesser motherboard but if you don't mind budget the sabertooth is quality even for future.  That case is much more than you need as well.

Please describe more in detail about what you want out of your system and your budget?  Because it seems like you want parts that you like and don't care about budget in which case we can't help much.

Max I want to spend is $1500, I am going to do mostly gaming and I will be video editing, recording, and I want to get into game design. The reason with the high watt PSU is I may want to add another graphics card down the road. I want my system to last a long time through the years without just having to buy another computer in 2 years.

I'd swap out the Hard Drive for a more reputable brand, such as Western Digital or Seagate, and 1000W is WAYYY overkill for that system, you'll be more than fine with 700-850w (650 is pushing it).

get the 280x instead of the 7970 ghz... same card but better drivers, as far as everything else i would see that psu to be overkill, even with 2 cards.

i'd go with an 850 that is plat rated instead of that one. and as far a video editing is consened i'd keep the 16g's. and get a Samsung ssd for the os "win 7 pro" for the extra support and resources utlization. good overall for a bit of everything

I agree with most of the comments here.  A 750W PSU will be enough for crossfired HD 7970s.  Motherboard is high quality, but if you wanted to save some money, you could go with something a little bit cheaper.

16GB of RAM isn't a bad idea, though.  It'll last quite awhile.

How big on the SSD and what brand do you suggest for the PSU?

corshaire psu and maybe a 120g ssd for the os and some commonly used programs/games

Here is what I have after the changes:

CPU: AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor ($199.99 @ Newegg)

Motherboard: Asus SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($184.49 @ Newegg)

Memory: G.Skill Sniper Gaming Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory ($109.99 @ Newegg)

Storage: Samsung 840 Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($89.99 @ Microcenter)

Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($82.99 @ NCIX US)

Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 280X 3GB Video Card ($299.99 @ Amazon)

Case: Cooler Master HAF X ATX Full Tower Case ($179.99 @ NCIX US)

Power Supply: Corsair 860W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($149.99 @ Newegg)

Optical Drive: Asus BW-12B1ST/BLK/G/AS Blu-Ray/DVD/CD Writer ($58.99 @ NCIX US)

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 (OEM) (64-bit) ($132.98 @ OutletPC)

Total: $1471.39

Any way to lower down the price with these? I still need a cooling unit (Preferably liquid cooling)

the case can be lowered to cope with a hs80. other than that i would stick a 212 evo on the cpu "depending on the weather conditions in your area"

and usually a 1t hdd for mass storage is enough for most gamers

+1

I only use 300GB on mine.  I just bought a 120GB SSD, and it holds most of my games and OS just fine.

"the case can be lowered to cope with a hs80"
Can you clarify that sentence?

What is an hs80?

I lowered it down to a 1TB HDD, I am going to be recording games, so 300GB wont be enough for me

120 mm closed loop liquid cooler from corishair. about 80$ and can oc the 8350 to about 4.4ghz.. give or take
