First off, hello everyone, my first post on these forums, but I have been watching Tek Syndicate for about 2 years now. I really like the design of the forums, minus the fact that you cannot get back to the main site from the forums easily.
Now, I am doing my first personal serious gaming PC build. I mosty need feedback on the monitor and PSU (will it be enough). I'm also curious about the ASUS Z170-A mobo about which I have seen some complaints about even on these forums.
The build.
The Pcpartpicker list only has parts I dont already have. Here is the full list with the correct prices for my location (I'm from Latvia).
- Case - Fractal design Define R5 White with window - 100 Eur
- Monitor - Benq GW2765HT - 355 Eur
- Mobo - Asus Z170-A - 130 Eur
- PSU - Corsair RMx 650W - 100 Eur
- CPU - i5-6400 - 175 Eur
- GPU - Sapphire R9 390 - 310 Eur
- RAM - Crucial Ballistix 4gb DDR4 x2 - 50 Eur
- HDD - WD Caviar Blue WD10EZEX 1TB - 48 Eur
- CPU cooler - Hyper 212 EVO - 30 Eur
- SSD - Samsung 850 EVO 250GB - 0 Eur (already have it)
- Mouse - Ozone Neon white - 0 Eur (already have it)
- Keyboard - CM storm Ultimate - 0 Eur (already have it)
As you can tell I am going for a white-black color scheme with minimal "gaming" bling(such as way too many LEDs as you can see on MSI mobos where you have whole strip of them embedded on the mobo itself).
Few criticisms I will refute right now because someone will probably bring them up:
- Get 16GB of RAM
Not really nessecary right now IMO, plus I can just buy 2x4GB sticks and add on later if the need arises.
-Get a 144Hz panel
No, I am not going to be playing a lot of fps games and if I do it wont be overly serious, plus from what I have seen TN panel colors are pretty bad, while better IPS panels are way too expensive for me.
Just grab any old cheap H170 motherboard, you don't need the overclocking features of Z170 with a locked CPU
If a single stick of 8GB RAM is cheaper get that, dual channel won't affect gaming
Case is overkill a bit
If you can knab a 4k IPS display might as well go for it over that 1440p display, dunno about your pricing and availability though
Decent point on mobo, might look into it, but I have really fallen for the asthetics of the Z170-A, especially if I am getting the case. Guess If I change one I'll just change both.
Yes, single 8GB sticks are chaper.
4K IPS displays are pretty expensive right now. TN panels are about 50 to 80 euros more, but I dont see the point as the R9 390 wont be able to push all those pixels efficiently.
You'll be able to push games somewhat well at 4k, but mostly it's for the productivity of just how much space you get with it
you can run the competitive games like dota/CS:GO at 4k, most indie games, and anything older you can run well at 4k lower settings.
and in addition by picking up the 4k IPS display now, you basically never have to buy another monitor, and in the next year or so GPUs that can push 4k well are going to be less expensive
4K monitors that are bigger than 27 inches are either unavailable or wildly expensive here. Plus 4K at 27 inches is too small IMO, I would rather just wait for a year or 2 to get a bigger size 4K monitor to avoid the scaling issues.
Just gotta move it a bit closer, at 27" it's about 150ppi
Perhaps, but my eyesight is already bad, I would probably have to put my face way too close to read anything. I also have (belive it or not) never really used 1080p or 27 inches big monitors for extended periods of time. Had a an old 4:3 which I used for a long time, then moved to a 1366x768 laptop which I am using right now. The jump to 1440p will already be huge for me.
