As the title says, anyone have any other suggestions?
I was looking to build a computer that will last me a long time and be great for frequent gaming. I dont need top of the line products, just stuff thats cheap and will work great!
I currently try to use a Dell laptop with awful overheating problems, a bad i5 @ 2.6 GHz or something like that and Intel HD 3000 Graphics so anything is an upgrade!
do you have a monitor and what is his resolution?
HD TV w/ HDMI + VGA In @ 1080i
Believe me you wanna new monitor, I have seen gaming on 1080i and the word crap doesnt descrbe it quite good
For that budget buy 7950 and ACHIEVA Shimian QH270-Lite Quad HD 2560x1440
If you got more cash buy 7970
Well , I have much to comment...
First, the Thermaltake Water 2.0 is a beastly closed loop water cooler, but do you really need it? Are you going to overclock it that much? If not, there is no point on expending 120 bucks over there... Want to have nice temps and a silent system? Get a 30 bucks Hyper 212. Want room for OC too? Get a Dark Knight II, want even more? You can get a Noctua D14, that's the most powerfull air cooler, dead silent and for only 80 dollars.
Don't go for a 4x4 ram solution, get a 2x8 if you really need the 16gb (which is uncommon) , you will not be sacrificing too much bandwith this way.
Never go for a Crossfire or SLI solution with cheap cards, Dual Graphics takes more space, draws more power, and puts up lots of heat into the case. Now that we are aware that the FPS and frame ratings not what any benchmark says, there is a huge drawback on going for crossfire (this is really fresh news, you can get more informed later) until AMD launches new drivers with this fix.
I won't suggest you going for a Velociraptor, you can get much better performance with a regular SIII mechanical hard drive + and SSD ( and it will be much cheaper).
And the case you picked won't fit much fans or even a dual 120mm rad just like the Tt Water 2.0 (lack of clearance)
Try going for this: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/RmTV As you can see I used the same budget than you did (1200 dollars)
I'd take that route if it wasn't a 40 inch tv:P
Plus, my bud hooked up his gaming rig to the tv and it passed all my standards.
Also, I can get close to the same performance getting 7770s for Cross Fire and OCing them vs the other cards plus its almost half the price :3
Just the same you cannot compare TFT panel from who knows when with modern S-IPS panel....
7770 is a waste of money looked in price/performance ratio. Both of them can give max perormance like 7870 which is cheaper than both of them, but 7950 twin frozr FTW.
I honestly planned to try and OC to 5+ GHz for the CPU and read in several places that either people wished they would have went with a water cooler or were happy they made that decision. I also read a lot of bad reviews for the Dark Knight II so I avoided that.
For the RAM, you're right with that but I was looking for cheap, fast, and high capacity. I looked for $125 or lower but gave up the $2 for that RAM. Still looking for better 2x8gb RAM though.
About the graphics cards, I actually didn't know Crossfire was that impacting, I'll have to try and reconcider the card and might even go with what you suggested!
With the HD, I mainly went with it due to close to SSD speeds but your solution is better and cheaper so Im definatly going with it.
Finally, for the case, I really never had to pick out a case and have no idea what would fit. If you have any suggestions for either the WC that I picked or even a very good Air Cooler, I'd love to hear them as I'm clueless :P
You really wont get that much with 5Ghz but if you want he best cooler (better even than those dumb ass watercoolers) then Noctua NH-D14.
Dont chase fast ram you will get nothing in game performance you do not need anything above 1600MHz
Concentrate your money on Gpu and monitor (cant stress this enough)
Much updated build with the great help of you two!
I also have a nice monitor I got from Dell a few months back when I got a computer for a buddy of mine so if I notice any performance issues, I can always switch to that
