I'm currently using a Logitech MX518 wired mouse which has served me well for 5 years. So well, in fact, that I'm having a hard time picking a mouse that can last that long and stand the abuse I put it through.
The one thing that has always annoyed me was that the wire connecting the mouse to the computer got in the way. So I've looked at some wireless/wired combo gaming mice. Razer has their new Mamba, but some of the reviews I've read did not show the same longevity as the Logitech. There's always the old Deathadder, but that's wired too, and I'm hesistant about its durability.
So, in a nutshell, I'm looking for a wireless gaming mouse that can handle abuse over a long period of time. Also looking to change it up a bit, bust out of my comfort zone. I'm willing to fiddle with pointer speeds, since I'm pretty sure nothing new works out of the box well, like the MX518 did (Razer Synapse 2.0 I'm looking at you).
As a final note, I really like the forward/backward buttons the MX518 has. Their position is perfect for my fingers to have a push to talk button and reload button in game.
I have a logitech m510, works nice right outta da box, as a basic mouse. logitech has some optional software for it, i just used it to set wheel tilt for volume control (yes, the scrollwheel has tilt cliicking). in windows 8, it'd be pretty handy, ad it has both veritcal, and horizontal scrolling.
it's a little small, but hell, it's a mouse for on-the-go, it fits into my backpack's cdplayer pocket. had it for about 5 mos now, still on the 1st set of batteries, which are supposed to last like 2 yrs or so. it's pretty durable, thick plastic.... I can even take it apart and get it back together with relative ease.
I guess I should add I'm looking for an optical mouse over a laser. That m510 looks quite similar to the mx518 minus the wire, which I like, but it's a laser.
I just saw Logan's review on the Zowie AM mouse, which looks really nice, and is optical. Two problems I have with it is, wired (which I'm going to have to get over I think, just need to find one with a light weight. Wireless all seem to have a bit of input lag that would not play nice with Counter Strike.) and durability factor. I'm shy about new mice just because I've had bad experiences with mice and keyboards alike that fail after 6 months to 1 year use. I always fall back to the mx518.
