Gaming Monitor

HI! Im currently looking for a 23 inch monitor (tired of my 20 inch). But im not aware of some of the key features i should be looking for. Can someone recommend any good monitors and give me a crash course in what to look for.

Ive been looking at this one by ASUS http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236175

thanks!

look for anything 5ms or under in response time, personally i wouldnt buy a monitor unless it was 2ms or under, and i personally like the smallest bezel possible on a monitor, also, dont get anything with a glossy screen or you'll want to kill yourself

alright! what about the refresh rate? ive got a 7950 overclocked, will 60hz hinder the performace? (smoothness)

No, it will just max out at 60 FPS visible. The max that I have seen is a little over a 120hz monitor, but 60hz is fine.

thanks

Milliseconds dont really do a lot anymore, anything under 8 is great. The real thing you have to be looking for are just user reviews, how well does it respond? How fast it responses isnt measured in milliseconds, for example, i have a 2ms screen right here and its slower than my other 2ms screen.

The Human eye cant even distinguish the differene between 5ms and 2ms, and 2ms monitors dont really have a 2ms response time anyway.

For that money if you want get something like a BenQ GW2450 which uses an AVMA panel

Itll be much better compared to the TN panel used by the ASUS monitor, such as having a better Static contrast Ratio, better Colour depth, Higher brightness (if you turn it up) and features that actually work properly like the Dynamic Contrast.

The ASUS will have a slight advantage in response time but the actual input lag wont be noticable (its 6ms or lower on average)

the BenQ is also less expensive for a Larger Screen 24" vs 23" and can be found for even cheaper if you look around, so my vote (obviously) goes to the BenQ or any VA or IPS panel you can find in that price range with a decent response time.
