Gaming and Productivity PC Build

I've had the experience of building three computers previous to this, but I'm no pro by any means. Hence, why I'm asking your advice.

I don't yet have the funding to build this. I'm waiting on something to sell first. However, I would like to build it after chistmas this year. I'm hoping the gtx 970s will drop in price after that. I'm currently a college student working for a film degree, so money is tight, but I need something to game at 1080p and run adobe premiere, lightworks, photoshop ect... (games I play are mostly Starcraft, Dota, Diablo, and Battlefield)

I've never overclocked before, and I don't think I will. I've also only owned Amd CPUs prior to this, so I really don't know what kind of mobo to get. I put a $200 budget for it, but I'd rather not go that high.

I'd also like some input on the PSU, I would like to have the overhead for dual 970s and an i7 4790k (I think)

My current build:

 Amd fx-6300(stock clock)

Gigabyte GA-990fxa-ud3

Nvidia GTX 750ti FTW

Corsair Vengence 8Gb

Noctua NH U14s

OCZ 650w bronze

NZXT Phantom 410 mid tower

Well this is a good looking build imo.

Maybe you could look into a cheaper psu. 850W is totaly overkill for a single GPU setup. 550W / 650W is more then enough. Unless you ever plan on add a second GPU lateron offcourse. in that case a 850W is not a bad choice. But for just a single gpu its overkill.

Also the Case, offcourse its a great case, but its allot expensive. the smaller version NZXT H440 also works, and is abit cheaper.

Current build: do you have that build currently? if so, then why not just re-use some parts from it?

Grtz Angel ☺

Yes, I plan to add a second gpu in the future.

The H440 was my initial choice, but I don't like the window. H630 is a bit quieter too. Besides, I like the extra room.

Yes, that is my current build but I'm giving it to my girlfriend.

I've been looking at like the MSI z97 gaming 7 too. There's a couple of gigabyte ones too. That's my main question is the motherboard.

Basicly any decent z97 board will be totaly fine.

Alright, so here is my newly updated revision. The define R4 is actually supposed to be the R5

I have this weird thing with naming all my computers. Any suggestions? Black with white accents is the theme I have so far. I'm thinking "Death Angel" would be cool.

Looks good to me.  Are you going to get the windowed version?

Seems like a good build that imo, And with that 750watt you can easily add a 2nd 970 as they don't draw nearly as much power, as a matter of fact, the 970 at stock speeds draws around 35 watt less than my 760. But yeah, seems like a very good build, and If i had the money for a new build, this is probely how I would spend my money.

No, I don't typically like cases with windows.

Thanks! Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I'll see how much the price drops on the 970s after christmas or after the new 1000 series comes out. If they go low enough I'll just get two to start with.

If you're waiting for the "1000" series...

You're gonna be waiting for a loooong time.

Aren't the new 1070s and 1080s coming out in like january?

The GTX 970 and GTX 980s were just released in September (2014).

GPUs have somewhere around an 18 month release cycle.  Of course, take this with a grain of salt, as it's a VERY general estimate.

The GTX 780s were released in May 2013, as well with most of the 7xxx lineup.

So that means that there were 17 months between the 700 and 900 series.  The 800 series only existed on mobile, and that was just mostly a mix of Kepler and Maxwell.

The GTX 960 isn't even out yet.  That's rumored to release in January or February, I believe.  NVIDIA's not going to release another new lineup of GPUs 4 months after a GPU launch.

Oh, I thought they were released more often than that. Good to know, thanks for the input. :)
