Game Trailer Roundup - All the good stuff from VGX, minus the crap

I didn't bother watching the VGX's/VGA's or other GameTrailer/SpikeTV produced rubbish, it's almost become the Jersey Shore of the video games industry.

Having said that, some cool stuff does get shown/announced at these events. So if you're feeling that Youtubey fuziness, I've linked to all the interesting stuff below, minus all the MTV-like pretentiousness. Enjoy!

The Witcher 3 - Hunting Monsters (this one is old, but I'm going to link it again here anyway because its freaking awesome)

In order of awesomeness I'm looking forward to The Witcher 3 the most. Only because I'm a huge fan of the first two games and Andrzej Sapkowski's works. If you haven't read his novels I recommend them whole-heartedly. In fact you should go read them now and then come back here afterwards to tell everyone how awesome they are. I'm serious. Don't worry, I'll wait.

After that, it's gotta be No Man's Sky. It handed every other game shown on VGX a freshly cooked lunch and then some. It's the only indie title that was shown at the VGX's. It looks brilliant from a technical point of view, and a friend of mine from back in our university days, Hazel, is a programmer on the project. She's the best I know in the industry with anything related to procedural subjects (except animation, which is my personal forte :P). The scale/scope of this game seems phenomenal however. A little fun fact; this game was made entirely by a team of four people.

Thief is probably a third. Just Hope Eidos/Square Enix don't consolize it too much like they did with Deus Ex: HR (which was still a good game, just no where near as good as the first). Story seems decent, however the visuals seem lacking, this is most likely due to the development hell it's been through since 2004.

I didn't know much about The Division until the trailer above, but it also seems interesting. I don't know enough about it to get too excited, although it does seem Ubisoft are putting a lot behind it. Their engine is undeniably impressive. There were some other gameplay/story trailers that you can findĀ  floating about and are older than the one above, but this one certainly struts it's graphical stuff more than the rest.

Destiny looks kinda cool. I'm not sure if I'm sold quite yet though. I enjoyed the Halo series in my youth and I hold much respect for Bungie as a company. There are plenty of other trailers out there for it (although older) if you care to discover more. Heck, I'm not even sure if it'll be released on PC, but considering they've been working solely on this title for the last 3-4 years I'll be keeping a watchful eye on this one for now.

That's all for the trailers folks. But for those with more time to burn; if you'd like a general summary of what you didn't miss, take a look below. Be warned, the following is extremely painful to watch.

Thanks for taking the time to put this together. I've been looking for something like this, as watching much of anything on television is nothing short of self-harm nowadays. Pretty excited about a few of these games; The Division and The Witcher 3 specifically.

+1

Thanks for taking the time to put this together.

I wonder if the engine for the Division will be avaiable for use similarly to the unreal engine and cryengine!

No worries! Never thought my laziness hunting around Youtube could be put towards something useful for once :P

Although that would be awesome, sadly it seems the industry thrives upon proprietary software. The clumination of the inudstry's knowledge in computer graphics and engine design would be the modern day equivalent of a utopian fountain for computer graphics knowledge. Sadly though business acumen dictates otherwise; they've got to sell their game to the masses somehow, and a fancy engine is one of the few ways to do that.
