Galaxy S9 specs

are you freaking serious ?
Quallcom quickcharge 2.0 ??
that better be a freakin typo

Compatible with***

I’m going to go with it not being a typo. According to the Qualcomm list:

(This will download the official PDF from Qualcomm’s website)
https://www.qualcomm.com/documents/quick-charge-device-list

The Galaxy S8 and S8+ still used Qualcomm 2.0 even though 3.0 had been out by that time if I’m not mistaken.

qc 4.0 has been a thing most of the year already

Right but QC3.0 been out for a while when they released the GS8 and GS8+ with QC2.0. I think they’re doing this to avoid the higher amounts of heat generated by the newer quick charge standards/ Maybe trying to avoid Galaxy Note 7 2.0? I found a thread that talked about this when people were confused about GS8 and GS8+ quick charging abilities:

https://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s8-and-s8-plus/784838-does-s8-and-s8-plus-use-qualcomms-quick-charge-3-0-4-0-a-5.html

but qc 4 has better thermals and limits and safety features

If you were a phone maker who has had exploding phone jokes made about you for like, 2 years, would you opt for a standard that allows for 28 watts of charging over one that allows for 18 watts? QC 4 definitely has better regulation, but I mean this is the brand that’s purposefully under-sizing batteries to fight any potential of fire hazards… Too them it’s probably worth it.

I have the note 8 so im probably good for another 2 years at least.

Excuse me, you’re worried about quickcharge when the battery is miniscule.

Maybe Samsung is using batteries barely in the acceptable capacity range for this phones and don’t want users reporting phones shutting down on their own at least in the first year so they’re going for a lower power charging protocol. To be honest they could’ve just implemented a software feature that allows users, on their own risk of shortening the battery life, to choose how fast you want your phone to charge because QC can negotiate with the charger the voltage and current.
Idealy I want this feature on any phone because I’m tired of having to use an aftermarket charger to slowly charge my phone instead of using the one included with the phone. Also Qualcomm should implement a “cable testing” feature before the charging starts.

P.S. sorry if it started as a comment and ended in a rant about shitty battery management on modern smartphones
