Hey all,
Soooo, I accidentally bought 2 Intel G4560’s, so thought I might as well put the spare to use - also it lets me test the CPU, in case my daily machine has a problem.
I bought a second hand but in unused condition (Gigabyte B250M-D2V), and it really was.
Then I got myself some 8GB DDR4 RAM, not fussed about ECC with this one. Unfortunately I bought 2 x 8GB unmatched, hey ho, another spare!
I have some low capacity SSD’s to run ‘play pools’ as well as boot and container storage.
I have to confess, I was curious about TrueCommand and being able to look at all machines on one display. So I got that working with at least one of my TrueNAS machines. Seems quite good to me, I’m hosting locally, though it seems a login is needed anyway.
Using the larger catalogue is funny, when the machine boots up, it pins the CPU to 100% usage while updating, takes around 5-10mins like that.
Speaking of power usage, just to clarify I have the following installed:
1 x 118GB SSD
1 x 1TB SSD
1 x 240GB SSD.
At start up while it’s doing the catalogue thing, it uses 45W.
Once it’s calmed down, that comes down to 20W.
No GPU needed, as the CPU has an iGPU.
Anyway, that’s about it really. Interesting stuff - my only issue so far with Scale, is how ACL works, or rather doesn’t easily. Something I still need to fiddle with.
I’ve got a spare Intel NIC PCI card, I might put that in, just in case the built in Realtec starts being a problem (experienced that before).
