I got a new cpu cooler : the corsair h80i and i wanted to try to oc my cpu (fx6300) but i can't get it stable above 4.2ghz. I think it is my motherboard but it might also be my gpu for some reason. I get a blackscreen (no singal output) after a couple minutes stress testing and the pc still runs. My motherboard is not a 990FX but a 970A.
Specs:
FX6300
MSI 970A-G46 AM3+
Corsair CX600M
MSI 7870HD OC edition
Corsair 2x4GB DDR3 1600 CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9
I tried all kinds of diffrent settings. Diffrent multiplier diffrent base clock more core voltage etc.
I also saw that some people have problems with the new amd catalyst beta drivers (13.4).
Can someone pls help me? Before i buy a new motherboard that doesnt make a diffrence.
Thanks in advance :)
Looks like to me the PSU could be using too much power or as far as i know my 6300 needs the 990fx chipset. So you should try updating your bios if that doesn't work I'm stumped.
I will look into updating the bios of my motherboard
Well no crash yet but prime95 stress test got 1 error on the 6th core :(

Stop using Prime95, download AIDA64 and use that stress test included. Also having a 4+1 Power phase is not that great for overclocking so don't expect much out of your CPU without your VRM overheating and causing instability.
I got my bro a MSI 970 mobo and a FX6300. With his hyper 212 evo it was easy to hit 4.5Ghz. I doubt it is the motherboard or psu. I just used all default settings in the BIOS and changed the multiplier to get it to 4.5Ghz then set the vcore to 1.44v and cpu/nb voltage at 1.2v Also make sure the 8 pin cpu connector is used not just 4 pin. Try that and see if it helps
OK i am stress testing Witt aida64 on 4.4 GHz 200x22 1.45 vcore land 1.2v CPU NB
The problems is the MSI mobo (the cheap ones are not good at the best of times and that one only has a 4+1 power phrase)
Yeah i thought it was, well i finally got a stable oc at 4.4 thanks to blitzerking giving me his settings and i modified it a little bit to give it more stability. Lets get some money for a sabertooth mobo :D
