So, I've gotten my 9590 running just fine, and started some stress tests. The test is definitely stressing the CPU, there is noticeable slowdown in any open apps while its running, which I haven't been able to duplicate, even running high-end games and then minimizing to do other things. However, I'm somewhat skeptical about the temps being reported by my monitoring software (Core Temp 1.0 RC6). It never reports a temp higher than about 46C while running the stress test, even though the testing software (BurnInTest 8.0) threw up an error message at about 5 minutes in, saying temperature threshold exceeded. Now, I was well aware when I bought this CPU that it has a reputation for running extremely hot, especially under load, and am cooling it with a Cooler Master Seidon 120M, fan and pump speeds set to 100%, and 2 120mm fans on the radiator, which is pulling cool outside air in to the case from the top rear fan mount, and exhausting via a 200mm fan on the top of the case, as well as 2 120mm fans at the front.
My question is, do these reported temps seem right? If not, what software may monitor the temp accurately? It just doesn't seem right to me that I'm getting a temp warning at 46 degrees. I run no over clock, and have turbo core enabled, so clock speeds are 4.7GHz, up to 5GHz turbo.
Nah that smells like it mistakes another probe for the CPU temp, which happens time to time when monitoring software cannot keep up with CPU and/or motherboard models. For what it's worth the same could be the case with the load test software. I haven't tried that CPU myself but I would try the latest beta version of HWiNFO64, it should definitely be up to date.
tried that program, it seems it also got the CPU temp from the wrong sensor, it looks like both programs are pulling the temp from only the #0 core, and listing them as the actual cpu temp. however, with the program you suggested, there is a 2nd sensor reading that shows CPU temp, under a different category called ITE IT8721F, that reads more like what I was expecting. Idle temp at 40, max temp at 57, averaging 46 since i started the program. Thanks for the help, ill have to use that program now, since it seems to be the only one that even shows a reading from the correct sensor, even if its not listed as the overall CPU temp sensor.
well, my Fx-9590 has a 33°C minimum idle temp; stress tests (Prime95) always bring up temperatures to 65°C and even more. The fact is, my Mobo software shows me a warning at 65°C, so I can turn the test off.
But I have to say that I put the thermal paste in a "vertical line" (as described in cooling manual) what is probably an issue because I later discovered AMD is better with "dot" in the middle of the CPU. More about that, I have a reportedn too high VCORE-1 temp (80°C) that make me the cooling system has been mounted not so well.
