Fx 8350 or i7 4930k with new build?

my current systems is this

fx-6300

hd 7870

ga-78lmt-usb3

seagate 500gb

16 gb of 1333mhz kingston hyperx blue

for long term use with using the system for video rendering and videogames. also for dragon naturally speaking software and watching blu ray . my question is this is it good idea to upgrade to a better amd or should i just build a whole new system with intel?

I'd say that depending on your needs upgrade your gpu first and if that doesn't give you the performance you want, upgrade your cpu. Also, what resolution are you playing at?

Edit: didn't see your motherboard. If your gonna upgrade to an 8 core amd, you will need a better mobo like an ASUS m990fx

i played runescape out of being board. but i am looking to play the new final fantasy in the future.

my motherboard is a gigabyte ga-78lmt-usb3 its a cheap motherboard for a budget build . this is my frist pc build. now i am looking to upgrade.

also the video card is gigabyte.

AMD if you want to go cheap.

Intel if you NEED the power. Which it looks like you don't.

Either way you will need a moderately priced motherboard.

Well either way you will need a new motherboard. The gigabyte one you have will fry under the 8350's voltage. So my personal recommendation is to wait and buy the 4930k and motherboard on fire sale since X99 will be coming out very soon. Or if you can stand longer video rendering times, go 8350 and a Asus 990fx pro 2.0 :)

i dont realy see the point of getting an 4930K for his needs its totaly overkill and a bit pointless. to be honnest.

3 options that i would recommend:

  1. FX8350 with decent 990FX chipset board
  2. Intel Xeon E3-1230V3 with decent H87 board. (no OC)
  3. Intel 4770K with decent Z87 board.

thanks for all the help.

Unless you planing to do some serious productivity stuff aswell, on a professional base then you could concider a 4930K.

But as far as i see the things you gonne use it for, i dont see a reason for it. you could put the money in other things like a more beefy GPU. especialy if you planning to render on open CL. then a R9-290 (x) could serv you very well, or if you use adobe premiere a GTX-780 (ti). to render on cuda.  instead of wasting all your money into a 4930K.

Offcourse the intel cpu's will do a littlebit better in video editing. so the 4770K with an overclock could stretch his legs abit more in rendering and editing, then the FX8350 or the Xeon, but the diffrence will not be that huge, with the price diffrence in concideration between those 3 cpu´s the choice is upto you. But the 4930K is pointless in my opinnion for your needs. $580 for the cpu, and $300 for a decent mobo, its realy a big waste in my opinnion.

You could have a 4770K with a decent motherboard for alot less then the price of the 4930K cpu on its own... i think you get my point?

Grtz Angel ☺

I have a 4930k for video/3d rendering.. Unless the videos you are going to be rendering are more then 5-10 min you wont see that much difference in speed from the new i7 4 cores or amd 8 core.

A friend of mine with an 8 core amd who came over to render some big projects and he told me it was almost half the time it would take on his computer but these were 1-2 hour renders.(It was probably actually 1/3 faster, needless to say its noticeable)

also for video rendering nvidia has a leg up with cuda enabled encoding almost all my software has a cuda check button (agian not a big deal unless its a long render)

they are also easily $3-5k systems in the end

(In my opinion for what I do worth the money)

I value everybody's opinion here. Everyone's recommendations has given me a lot to think about. I have concluded not to spend such a big amount of money on this processor instead I will be going with the FX 8350 and Asus sabertooth motherboard.

There is a very good point about the GPU and video rendering. I plan to find the finest software that can take advantage of GPU performance over CPU performance.

I have mostly use Intel in the past. Just recently using AMD. I love either CPU.

Thank you all for giving me the recommendations that helps out a lot. Sorry did not comment more I was not using my Dragon NaturallySpeaking software at the time :)

Yeah Intel for this is overkill, just go  with the FX 8350, do not, i repeat, DO NOT go with the FX 9590, they are a waste of money and are also power hogs.

Them render times though.

Look at thease combo´s.

  1. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/12bdf
  2. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1ZrO6
  3. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/F6l0

Now before people start to yell and scream, about ""a Z87 chipsetboard is pointless for the xeon cpu, because the xeon is not overclockable"" The reason why i choosed for this Z87 killer board instead of a cheaper H87 or B85 board, is because the Z87 board, offers me CF and Sli support. the H87 and B85 only support CF. so i think it could be an handy thing to have both supported. for a rendering rig.

FX8350 + Asrock 990FX Extreme 9. the reason why i picked this combo instead of the sabertooth, is because the extreme 9 is $10 cheaper.

thank you :)
