I am using the hardware from the title and my computer overheats when gaming. I have done all the trouble shooting such as changing thermal paste, fan orientation, creating a push pull config, cleaning all dust, connecting fans to the motherboard instead of fan controller and opening top vents on my define r5. Nothing helps. As of right now when writing this article i have 49C with a twitch stream, forum and steam open. I have been looking in the bios to turn up the fan rpm a bit which did not help either. I was thinking about just turning up the critical temp but i cant find it. :( any tips? should i go to aria and refund my product? mobo: asus m5a99x evo r2.0. i dont have any overclocks -Matt
EDIT: After looking about and messing with the bios, i have managed to make my idle temp 30, and my load temp 40. Somehow... Edit v2: I will update here if any issues persist. thanks for the help Edit v3: I bought a h100. Thanks for the help
A H55 is pretty useless tbh even a cheap cooler master hyper 212 evo is better. Also what are you useing to check temps? only use AMD's overdrive utilty to check core temps
Core temp dosent show accurate temps with AMD chips use AMD's overdive utilty to show temps your chip is good for upto 65c on the core before it starts throttleing its self to keep cool
Agreed many FX chipsets have faulty thermal probes, on mine HWmonitor seems to work for temps; as per your issue you shouldn't have a problem with a H55. It is a fairly good cooler and shouldn't have an issue until you are getting into the 175 watt+ range, which you would only reach with a good overclock. Maybe it's pump is defective? try plugging the pump directly into power rather then your Mobo, use a molex or Sata power adapter see if that helps maybe it just isn't being powered correctly? If that doesn't help I would submit a RMA. Also consider that the 8350 is a powerful CPU you might want to upgrade your cooler. A scythe Muguen 4 or a be quiet dark rock 3 would outperform that H55 by a bit, for less money. If you want to overclock investing in a higher end cooler like a NH D15, a CM Neptune 280L, or a H105/H110 or better would be ideal.
The h55 cooler is pretty much just for noise reduction vs air coolers. Air coolers such as the 212 evo preform better than or only marginal worse than water coolers until you get to the 240mm range.
haha not with the stock fans, I had h60 an grey corsair SP fans were loud :) but the fact is that for performance its better to get something with 240 radiator and swap stock fans if you are into aios.
It is not bad, if you get a good , cool cpu or you do not oc much it does its purpose but if is summer and temp in your room is 35C and your pc is breathing the same air and your ambient temp gets higher and higher, dont expect to push 5 GHZ on it. Remember that temps of your parts depend on you room temperature. You measure efficiency of cooler : cpu temp - room temp = delta temp. I had H60 which is similar but in the summer I had to reduce oc to keep temps in check.
With a stable .5 ghz overclock on my 8320 I run at about 43c idle according to the AMD Overdrive app with a Noctua NH-U12P. HWmoniter says it's more like 36 though. (actual CPU tab says like 17 but that's obviously wrong) Under load I rarely go over 59.
Could be that there is an issue with your pump. pump issues are not unkown with older corsair aio´s.
Altough the Corsair H55 is not the best cooler on the market, BUT its definitely not the worst. I have used the FX8350 stock cooler for over a year for that matter, and that will be far worse then the H55.
I would suggest to double check if your pump is working correctly, maybe reseat the pump and renew thermal paste using the pie in the center method.
Also for overclocking, please dont use something like AMD overdrive. But do a propper overclocking in your bios.
